The role

We are looking for a Technical Officer Cell Culture Scale-Up to support our Human Health Therapeutics Research Centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity Excellence Respect and Creativity.

The successful candidate will play an important role interacting with different R&D teams and functions towards the development of mammalian expression systems and bioprocesses for the large-scale production of biologics including recombinant proteins viral vectors and viruses. Responsibilities will include the provision of technical support services in the design planning preparation conduct and analysis of various experiments and/or tests as well as technology transfer of R&D processes.

Screening criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

A minimum of Bachelors degree in biochemical/chemical engineering molecular or cellular biology microbiology engineering or a related field.

A university degree in Bioengineering may be considered an asset.

Experience
  • Significant experience in bioprocess development and scale-up with expression systems for the production of recombinant proteins and/or viral vectors and /or viruses for vaccine development.
  • Experience with operating bioreactors in different modes (batch and/or fed-batch and/or perfusion).
  • Experience working in aseptic conditions preferably with mammalian cells.
  • Experience in working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in analytical techniques applied to quantification and characterization of recombinant proteins and/or viral vectors would be an asset.
  • Experience with data management data analysis and data reporting under structured technical report format.
  • Experience working with suspension cell cultures in flasks or other high-throughput small scale equipment such as mini-bioreactors or deep well plates including experience with typical cell culture instrumentation used for off-line and on-line measurements of operating parameters and cell culture metabolites would be an asset.
  • Experience in cell culture media development and optimization of cell culture processes operating conditions would be an asset.

  • Good knowledge of biomanufacturing principles.
  • Good knowledge of bioreactor operation.
  • Significant knowledge of cell biology and cell culture principles and/or fermentation.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology.
  • Knowledge of Excel Word and Powerpoint Microsoft softwares and data management data analysis and data reporting under structured technical report format using these softwares.
