RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal Quebec the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Position summary
Under the direct supervision of the Lead Small Animal Imaging (SAIL) and CTB Business Relations and in close collaboration with the CTB Project Manager and the SAIL Platform Manager the Technical Coordinator plays a key operational and technical support role within the SAIL Platform. The incumbent supports the coordination and execution of preclinical imaging studies with a strong emphasis on hands-on animal work and day-to-day study activities. This position is highly embedded within the SAIL facility and is responsible for assisting in the planning preparation and execution of studies involving small animal imaging surgical procedures and biological sample collection. The Technical Coordinator ensures smooth study operations supports compliance processes and contributes to high-quality data generation and delivery.
General Duties
Study Coordination & Operational Support
Support the Project and SAIL Managers in coordinating day-to-day activities of preclinical imaging studies to ensure timelines and milestones are met.
Assist in the preparation of study schedules workflows and task tracking.
Coordinate logistics related to animal availability imaging slots and required resources (equipment consumables personnel).
Communicate regularly with internal teams to ensure study readiness and alignment of activities.
Hands-On Experimental & Animal Work
Perform hands-on animal procedures including:
Animal handling and restraint
Anesthesia induction monitoring and recovery
Assistance with surgical procedures where required
Blood and biological sample collection (e.g. plasma tissues)
Support execution of imaging procedures across SAIL modalities (e.g. MRI PET/CT SPECT/CT ultrasound optical imaging X-ray/DXA) in collaboration with technologists.
Assist with preparation and administration of contrast agents tracers or investigational compounds as applicable.
Ensure proper post-procedure monitoring and care in compliance with animal welfare standards.
Study Preparation & Facility Readiness
Prepare animals equipment and materials ahead of study sessions.
Ensure imaging rooms and procedure areas are properly set up and cleaned before and after experiments.
Verify availability of consumables reagents and supplies required for study execution.
Assist with basic equipment setup and troubleshooting under supervision.
Administrative & Compliance Support
Assist in the preparation submission and tracking of Animal Use Protocols (AUPs) amendments and renewals.
Support documentation of study protocols SOPs and experimental records.
Maintain accurate logs of animal procedures imaging activities and sample collections.
Ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements (CCAC biosafety radiation safety).
Data & Documentation Support
Assist in organizing and documenting study data ensuring completeness and traceability.
Support data transfer storage and packaging for delivery to investigators.
Maintain accurate study records for reporting billing support and audits.
Client & Team Support
Assist the Project and SAIL Managers in interactions with investigators and collaborators.
Support tours and onboarding of new users by assisting with training on basic workflows and procedures.
Participate in study meetings and provide updates on operational progress.
Contribute to a collaborative service-oriented environment within SAIL and across CTB platforms.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Lead SAIL and CTB Business Relations.
Required Skills
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Excellent communication skills in English and French spoken and written.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite experience with project management tools (e.g. MS Project Trello Asana) an asset.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Knowledge of preclinical imaging workflows is an asset.
Additional information
Status : Temporary Full-Time (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: $45518.20 - $84484.40/year. Commensurate with education & work experience.
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm. *Work could be required outside normal hours. If so there would be overtime compensation.*
