SUMMARY

The function of the Operations Air Import Team Lead is to oversee the processing of all shipments as well as the movement and monitoring while in route. Lead the handling of shipments ensuring compliance with DSVs Corporate guidelines as well as government regulations. This role will have direct communication with customers overseas offices and carriers is required. This role mentors and trains new staff as well as update internal and external process changes from time to time.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Daily management and coordination of shipments
  • Lead and direct desk level day to day operations of the Operation Department
  • Champion process and procedure to meet or exceed company KPI requirements
  • Establish and coordinate schedules with carriers and tender shipments
  • Prepare and publish reports as requested
  • Mentor and train new staff from time to time
  • Act as the first escalation point for operational and customer service issues.
  • Proactively identify problems and swiftly implement the appropriate solution
  • Responsible for cost containment of shipments
  • Evaluate shipments consolidate loads select most cost-effective method of delivery
  • Daily Communication with customer on relevant issues and resolution
  • Manage new account implementation from standard operating procedure to execution
  • Ability to demonstrate deductive logic problem solving and trouble shooting skills
  • Effectively deal with any issues that arise within scope of responsibility
  • Work with Management to continually improve department operations with focus on productivity
  • Will assign and manage workflow
  • Responsible for his/her team performance including staff development recognition through daily desk level oversight guidance and coaching
  • Perform another assigned task/responsibilities
  • Adhere to all company policies procedures and guidelines
  • Ability to manage conflicts professionally and promote teamwork.
  • Provide operational coverage in the absence of the operator/supervisor.

  • Perform assigned tasks to support DSV meets its objectives and targets regarding quality health safety and environment and follow all requirements as set out in the DSV Quality Health Safety Environment policy.
  • Staff are required to ensure that their day-to-day activities embrace sustainability Health and safety therefore reducing the impact upon the environment supporting the communities we work in and reducing incidents in the workplace.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Education in supply chain logistics international transportation or a related field of study
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in a freight forwarding environment
  • CIFFA certificate an asset
  • Dangerous Goods certification an asset
  • ACR designated status an asset (for Airfreight only)

  • Proven ability as a self-starter with ability to plan organize and establish priorities to meet goals and achieve results

Language and Computer Skills

  • English is the principal language for this position additional languages may be required in other locations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse multicultural environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • CargoWise Tango experience an asset

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods sitting and standing at a desk and working on a computer
