JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of System Reliability & Design Engineer (New Nuclear).
Reporting to the Section Manager Managed Systems and Engineering Programs this role plays a key part in advancing OPGs new nuclear development initiatives including Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology. You will contribute to the development of innovative engineering solutions governance frameworks and digital capabilities that support the future of nuclear operations in Ontario.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Multiple role streams: Provide engineering support in one of the following areas: (1) equipment reliability and aging management; (2) system design and procurement; and/or (3) reactor safety and analysis. Apply engineering tools software and applicable codes and standards to support the development of nuclear systems ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of engineering governance processes and procedures aligned with the assigned role stream (design and procurement equipment reliability or reactor safety) to support SMR operating facilities
- Author and maintain technical documentation including procedures specifications safety analyses and design basis materials ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements operating licenses and organizational standards
- Collaborate with internal teams external vendors and industry partners to define coordinate and deliver engineering work across reliability design procurement and/or reactor safety functions
- Interface with and support communications with regulatory bodies including the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) particularly in areas relevant to assigned engineering focus
- Prepare technical reports engineering analyses and presentations to communicate findings support decision-making and respond to internal and external inquiries
- Analyze operational design and historical data to identify improvement opportunities support engineering studies and inform reliability safety and design decisions
- Support operations readiness activities including procedures development system validation and readiness assessments for new nuclear facilities
- Contribute to the configuration testing and deployment of engineering and enterprise digital tools that support future-state operations across the different engineering streams
- Develop or support automated tools and scripts (e.g. Python) for tracking reporting data analytics and engineering process efficiency
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical Electrical Nuclear Software or related discipline)
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a nuclear engineering (preferred) or regulated industrial environment required
- Demonstrated experience working with or interfacing with regulatory bodies (e.g. CNSC TSSA)
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards related to nuclear design inspection maintenance and lifecycle management
- Experience in engineering design systems engineering or equipment reliability
- Familiarity with engineering tools digital platforms and data analysis approaches; experience with Python power apps SAP 3D modelling or automation tools is an asset
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to engage effectively across multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including technical report writing and presentations
- Proven analytical thinking problem-solving ability and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced evolving environment with a high degree of initiative and accountability
- Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario

The base salary range considers many factors including but not limited to experience education and training including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range and salary is dependent on numerous factors. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
