OVERVIEW:

Reportingto the Program Supervisor the Support Worker will work full-time hours inMemengwaa Youth Transitional Housing. This position is responsible for workingcollaboratively with team members to support youth capacity building and skilldevelopment. The key objective of this role is to support youth transitioningto independent living.


KEYRESPONSIBILITIES:

Provideon-site support for youth living in the home to enhance and pursue mentalemotional physical and spiritual wellness.

Organizesocial and recreational activities for youth both on-site and in the community.

Encourageyouth to engage in community participation through supporting involvement incommunity lead activities special events volunteering etc.

Coordinateand/or facilitate group activities or workshops; engage youth in programming asper guidance from the Youth Transition Workers.

Communicatewith Youth Workers to identify the unique goals of each youth and collaborateto assist youth to pursue goals.

Supporton-site life skills development by guiding youth through tasks such ashousehold chores cooking maintenance etc.

Inpartnership with other program team members help ensure youth maintain theirhome in a way that meets health and safety requirements.

Supportoff-site life skills development by assisting youth to attend appointmentsaccess resources such as ID or complete grocery shopping; empower youth toaccess resources independently over time.

Inpartnership with the Youth Transition Worker assist youth with researching andapplying for school work or other programs.

Intervenein crises in a calm and effective manner including supporting youth to accessappropriate and immediate resources.

Maintainaccurate and complete written records document incidents as required.

Attendtraining as directed and participate in team meetings as required.

Full-timehours are based on programming requirements and needs.

Otherduties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Trainingin a social services field considered an asset but not required; a combinationof previous work experience lived experience and training will be considered.

ClearChild Abuse Adult Abuse and Criminal records check (with Vulnerable Personscheck) and Prior Contact Check.

ValidMB class 5 Drivers license; access to a vehicle is an asset but not Abstract required.

ASISTNVCI First Aid CPR and other related training considered an asset.

Demonstratedknowledge and/or understanding of Indigenous perspectives First Nationsculture and traditional philosophies required.

Abilityto walk multiple flights of stairs may be required.

Stronginterpersonal skills and ability to develop effective working relationshipswith youth and program team members.

Experiencewith child welfare and/or youth transitioning out of care preferred.

Knowledgeof community resources and ability to connect youth in a care to a variety ofresources preferred.

Excellentoral and written communication skills required.

Abilityto fluently speak Anishinaabemowin would be an asset.
