Aecon Utilities is seeking an experienced Substation Electrical Supervisor to support the safe and efficient execution of high-voltage substation projects throughout British Columbia. Reporting to the Project Manager or Construction Manager the Substation Supervisor is responsible for supervising field crews coordinating daily construction activities ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards and supporting the successful installation testing and commissioning of substation equipment.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in substation construction and electrical infrastructure projects coupled with proven leadership experience in managing crews subcontractors and field operations within energized utility environments.
What Youll Do Here:
  • Supervise and coordinate field crews involved in the installation maintenance testing and commissioning of high-voltage substation equipment
  • Lead daily field activities to ensure work is completed safely efficiently and in accordance with project schedules and client requirements
  • Coordinate the installation of transformers breakers switchgear disconnect switches control buildings grounding systems bus work and associated electrical equipment
  • Monitor workforce productivity material availability equipment utilization and subcontractor performance
  • Conduct daily safety meetings field hazard assessments inspections and toolbox talks while promoting Aecons Safety Always culture
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations utility standards client procedures and company policies
  • Review and interpret electrical drawings single-line diagrams IFC drawings specifications and construction packages to guide field execution
  • Coordinate with Project Managers Engineers QA/QC personnel and commissioning teams to support project delivery and resolve field issues
  • Participate in project planning activities including look-ahead schedules manpower forecasting and resource planning
  • Support testing and commissioning activities ensuring completion of required documentation and quality records
  • Track project progress and maintain accurate daily reports field records redlines and site documentation
  • Assist with site logistics material management vendor coordination and subcontractor oversight
  • Identify and proactively address project risks constructability concerns and schedule impacts
  • Foster a collaborative work environment focused on safety quality teamwork and continuous improvement
What You Bring to the Team:
  • Diploma in Power Systems Electrician Electrical Engineering Technology Electrical Engineering Technician or a related electrical discipline; equivalent experience and relevant industry certifications will also be considered
  • Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician as a preferred qualification
  • 5 years of experience in high-voltage substation construction electrical utility infrastructure transmission or distribution projects
  • Previous supervisory experience leading field crews subcontractors or electrical construction teams
  • Strong understanding of substation equipment installation grounding systems protection and control systems and utility construction practices
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings single-line diagrams schematics and technical specifications
  • Working knowledge of electrical safety standards lockout/tagout procedures and energized utility work environments
  • Strong planning coordination and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Excellent leadership communication problem-solving and relationship-building skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project documentation/reporting requirements
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License and willingness to travel to project sites throughout British Columbia

The expected pay range for this role is $95000 - $145000 per year.
Individual pay is determined based on several factors including work location education experience unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications specialized training and the complexity or scope of the role.
