Job Summary

The Senior Sample Log-in Technicians primary responsibilities are to verify accuracy of chains of custody log all samples into LIMS according to chain of custody and client specific requirements label samples accordingly train new personnel perform report and invoice revisions and review processes for improvement within the Sample Receiving department. Senior Sample Receiving Technician is responsible for following all health and safety procedures and promoting a safe working environment throughout the department and the addition the Senior Sample Log-in Technician will provide operational coordination for the Sample Management team during absence of the Sample Management Supervisor. Ensures efficient sample receiving sample login courier coordination workflow prioritization and compliance with laboratory procedures and quality requirements.

Job Functions:

  • Routes inbound packages to appropriate department
  • Sorts packages containing samples according to turn around time analytical and client priorities; compares samples received to chain of custody documenting any discrepancies
  • Tracks all packages and reusable bar-coded media in LIMS returns all unused/returned media for reuse as applicable
  • Transfers samples between sample reception and sample custody room upon login completion
  • Removes and disposes rejected samples and media according to SOP guidelines
  • Adheres to lab and sample management SOPs to ensure that the proper sampling handling procedures are followed
  • Logs samples into LIMS by assigning the appropriate analytical test codes to each sample in accordance with the chain of custody
  • Reviews and completes all COC discrepancies/ client communication documentation in a timely manner
  • Packages and ships samples for subcontracting
  • Reviews processes for improvement and troubleshoots errors
  • Maintains all required documentation with accuracy and clarity
  • Act as a primary point of contact for operational issues when supervisor is unavailable
  • Coordinates daily workflow and assigns operational priorities to ensure turnaround times are achieved when supervisor is unavailable
  • Monitors departmental workload and redistributes work when supervisor is unavailable
  • Communicate operational updates between departments when supervisor is unavailable
  • Supports Quality Management System and ISO 17025 compliance within Sample Management
  • Identify quality-related issues (non-conformances) and initiate immediate investigation and corrective actions when supervisor is unavailable

Job Complexity:

  • Prioritizing samples based on holding times & turnaround expectations
  • Must use good judgement to identify and resolve problems on the job. When in difficulty refer problems to his/her supervisor for resolution
  • Prioritizes multiple competing operational demands
  • Makes independent operational decisions based on established procedures
  • Coordinates activities between Sample Management and the laboratory team
  • Identifies operational risks and escalates when appropriate
  • Uses judgment to resolve workflow issues with minimal supervision
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications :

Education and Experience:

  • 4-year degree in Microbiology/Chemistry related field or equivalent work experience Preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary to cross multiple disciplines Required
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills Required
  • Proficiency with LIMS or related systems Preferred
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision Required
  • Flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs Required
  • 2 years of Sample Management or Laboratory Operations Required

Additional Information :

Salary: $23 - 30 per hour
