Speech Language Pathologist B4 General Internal Medicine Temporary full-time

Summary of Duties

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has an opportunity for a Speech-Language Pathologist to provide comprehensive swallowing and communication services to patients in General Medicine. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with patients families and interprofessional team members to provide evidence-informed best practice

Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

• Assess plan implement and monitor swallowing and communication impairment interventions
• Maintain patient records and workload measurement in accordance with facility and professional standards
• Act as an SLP resource to the SLP team the interprofessional team families and students
• Maintain and upgrade skills and knowledge through continuing education and seek opportunities for knowledge dissemination
• Participate in SLP clinical education and interprofessional education activities
• Participate in SLP Professional Council Program and hospital-wide meetings committees and planning as required
• Practice in accordance with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario

Qualifications/Skills

• Current CASLPO registration
• Previous experience working with medically complex patients in an acute care environment
• Experience with dysphagia and communication assessment and management
• Experience with video fluoroscopic evaluation of swallowing required
• Experience in assessment and management of patients with tracheostomies would be an asset
• Previous clinical teaching experience preferred
• Excellent communication and time-management skills and ability to work as part of an inter-professional team
• Demonstrated commitment to continuing education
