Senior Java/J2EE Developer WebSphere Portal Oracle SQL & DataPower

Location: Toronto Ontario

Work Model: Onsite 5 days per week

Client: Ontario Public Sector / Government Services

Contract Duration: Approximately 186 business days with possible extension

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Java/J2EE Developer to support a high-impact Ontario public sector application environment involving business registry and enterprise portal systems.

This role is ideal for a strong hands-on developer who has experience working with Oracle databases Java/J2EE enterprise applications IBM WebSphere Portal/WebSphere Application Server DataPower ESB integrations and standards-based web services.

The successful candidate will help translate technical system specifications into working tested applications while supporting database-driven development technical design documentation system integration reporting testing and knowledge transfer to internal technical teams.

Experience with business registry systems occupational registry systems Catalyst ONBIS or Ontario public sector platforms would be a strong asset.

Key Responsibilities

Translate technical system specifications into working tested applications.
Develop detailed programming specifications and technical design documentation.
Write generate test and maintain code for data-driven enterprise applications.
Work with Oracle databases SQL queries schemas data extracts reports and performance-related technical recommendations.
Support Java/J2EE-based portal and web applications in an enterprise environment.
Work with n-tier application architecture enterprise service bus integrations IBM DataPower and standards-based web services.
Support applications built on IBM WebSphere Portal IBM WebSphere Application Server and WSRP-based components.
Develop and support dashboards using Microsoft Databricks.
Create technical artefacts related to database design application design queries reports and system integration.
Participate in system analysis troubleshooting testing integration and application support activities.
Support automated testing activities using tools such as HP UFT and Selenium.
Assist with accessibility testing aligned with WCAG 2.0 Level A/AA AODA and IASR requirements.
Provide documentation and knowledge transfer to full-time project and technical staff.

Required Skills and Experience

Strong hands-on experience with Oracle databases and structured SQL-based query languages.
Strong experience working with Java/J2EE enterprise applications.
Experience with n-tier portal and web application environments.
Hands-on experience with enterprise service bus IBM DataPower and standards-based web services.
Experience with IBM WebSphere Portal and IBM WebSphere Application Server.
Experience developing or supporting Microsoft Databricks dashboards.
Ability to create technical recommendations and documentation related to:
- Database schemas
- SQL queries
- Data extracts
- Reports
- Database performance
- Application design
Strong analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work in a complex multi-stakeholder technical environment.

Nice to Have

Experience with Catalyst-based business registry or occupational registry systems.
Knowledge of Ontario Business Registry System / ONBIS and related business processes.
Experience working in Ontario Public Sector or broader public sector environments.
Understanding of GO-ITS standards enterprise architecture practices and public sector IT methodologies.
Experience creating architecture artefacts technical design documents and application design documents.
Familiarity with business analysis change management system testing and integration practices.
Experience working in highly complex unionized and multi-stakeholder environments.
