The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for analyzing the financial statements at the program level reviewing claim forms and funding contracts and preparing various financial reports required by the funders. They will support senior leaders in forecast modelling for the association and upcoming projects and are responsible for the preparation of program audit files. The Senior Financial Analyst works closely with senior management in Child and Family Development (CFD) for the preparation of complex funding proposal submissions and mandatory reporting to various collaboration with the Manager the Senior Financial Analyst will establish best practices to ensure adherence to regulatory and YMCA guidelines.
In this role you will:
- Lead the preparation of accurate and timely monthly claims and periodic financial reports as required and in compliance with complex funding agreements and guidelines.
- Prepare Child and Family Development (CFD) wage subsidy general operating Canada-Wide Early Learning & Child Care funding and other Government grants reconciliations by Region as required and in compliance with funding agreement and guidelines.
- Assist the Associate Manager Finance and Child and Family Development (CFD) General Managers in reviewing complex funding agreements and guidelines as well as the budgeting process and analysis of all CFD programs.
- Prepare budget submissions for CFD contracts and for child care centers regional funding.
- Manage month-end preparation and closing procedures in an accurate and timely manner.
- Prepare the reconciliation of accounts receivable deferred revenues and other selected General Ledger accounts related to Government funding and review monthly revenue drawdowns and Association Allocations (A&A) calculations.
- Perform budget variance analysis on CFD and on Camping and Outdoor Education financial statements to support monitoring financial performance.
- Assist CFD senior management with analysis on financial viability when opening new centers and with monitoring of subsequent financial performance.
- Support the external audit process by preparing audit documentation and analysis and providing professional explanations to auditors inquiries regarding controls and revenues and expenses testing
- Co-lead CFD program audit preparation by preparing financial statements for audited/reviewed programs and leading the preparation of supporting documents for program audit samples.
- Participate in decisions relating to accounting policy changes enhancements to accounting systems and modifications to YMCA policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
You bring:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or Business or equivalent experience
- Minimum three years of accounting work experience
- Understanding of the entire accounting process from data-entry to completing Financial Statements
- Professional designation such as CA CMA CGA or enrolled in an advanced stage of completing the program or equivalent work experience is an asset
- Knowledge of Canadian Accounting Standards for Not for Profit Organizations is an asset
- Experience in preparing reporting for government funding is an asset
- Must possess strong computer skills (Advanced Excel Word computerized accounting package)
- Strong analytical skills and attentive to details
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members staff and volunteers
- Excellent written oral communication and problem-solving skills
- Excellent understanding of diversity inclusion and equity including the ability to identify and address barriers work effectively with diverse stakeholders and integrate equity into program design
