Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Applications Architect to support the design development implementation and management of enterprise application architecture within a large and distributed IT environment for a public sector client.

The Applications Architect will be responsible for defining the overall structure logical components and relationships across applications operating systems networks databases middleware and integration layers. This includes identifying reusable components defining quality metrics organizing and layering software determining application interfaces and ensuring that technology solutions are scalable secure maintainable and aligned with enterprise standards.

The role also involves developing implementing and managing cross-platform applications in a large distributed environment monitoring system interactions understanding dependencies between components and defining technical limitations and requirements for source code and application design. The Applications Architect will also define interactions between application packages databases middleware systems APIs and integration platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Define the structure and relationship among applications including reusable components quality level metrics software organization application layering and interfaces.
  
• Design develop implement and manage cross-platform applications in large and distributed environments.
  
• Monitor the overall system and understand interactions between components at various levels of abstraction.
  
• Define limitations dependencies and requirements for source code application design and system integration.
  
• Define interactions between application packages databases middleware systems APIs and integration platforms.
  
• Support the development and implementation of enterprise application architectures.
  
• Lead or contribute to systems analysis and design in large systems environments.
  
• Develop enterprise architecture deliverables including architecture models technical documentation integration diagrams and solution design artifacts.
  
• Support the design development implementation and maintenance of large complex applications workflow processes and dynamic forms.
  
• Lead multi-tier application infrastructure design documentation and configuration for medium or large corporate implementations.
  
• Work closely with business stakeholders technical teams project teams and leadership to ensure solutions meet business technical security compliance and operational requirements.
  
• Support application modernization cloud adoption integration planning architecture governance and solution delivery activities.
  
• Ensure architecture decisions consider performance scalability security maintainability compliance and operational support.
  
• Participate in incident change release and implementation planning activities where required.
  
• Provide technical leadership guidance and mentoring to project and technical teams.
  
• Support alignment with Ontario Public Sector enterprise architecture standards methodologies and governance practices.
  

Requirements

Experience and Skill Set Requirements

Education

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related field.
  
• Masters degree or relevant certifications such as TOGAF or Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect are strongly preferred.
  

Experience 40%

• 10 years of progressive experience in IT architecture and system integration.
  
• Demonstrated experience with OPS enterprise architecture standards particularly within the Ontario Public Sector.
  
• Strong track record in designing implementing and optimizing Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure in large-scale complex environments.
  
• Proven ability to integrate complex permit and application systems while managing cross-functional dependencies.
  
• Experience working in large public sector enterprise or highly regulated environments.
  

Technical Skills 35%

• Expert knowledge of Microsoft Azure architecture including security networking identity data services and monitoring.
  
• Strong experience with enterprise integration including API development ESB microservices architecture and middleware technologies.
  
• Familiarity with ITIL processes specifically incident management change management and release management.
  
• Knowledge of the PMO Stage Gate process within OPS or similar public sector environments.
  
• Knowledge of cloud-based security practices and compliance protocols relevant to OPS.
  
• Strong understanding of application integration cloud infrastructure architecture governance and enterprise solution design.

Public Sector Experience 5%

• Experience working with the Ontario Public Sector broader public sector government or similar enterprise environments.
  
• Knowledge of OPS architecture standards governance processes security requirements and project delivery practices is considered an asset.
