Reporting to the Director of Finance youll play an important role in maintaining the financial integrity of while supporting budgeting forecasting compliance and strategic planning that enables the organization to maximize its impact.

Reporting to the Director of Finance the Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial operations while providing timely reporting financial analysis and strategic insights to stakeholders across the organization.
This role combines hands-on accounting responsibilities with financial planning and analysis helping ensure accurate financial reporting compliance with accounting standards effective grant management and informed organizational decision-making. As continues to grow the Senior Accountant will help strengthen financial processes support operational excellence and contribute to the organizations long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports forecasts and management reporting packages.
- Build and maintain financial models and forecasts monitoring forecast accuracy and identifying significant variances.
- Perform monthly statement of operations analyses across programs departments funding sources and budget-to-actual results.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and prepare variance analyses for month-end reporting.
- Prepare month-end journal entries and support timely monthly close processes.
- Review bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations prepared by the Finance Coordinator.
- Monitor accounts payable accounts receivable banking credit card and donation accounts to ensure accuracy and consistency across financial systems.
- Maintain revenue dashboards and proactively identify trends or variances requiring attention.
- Reconcile donor information between the financial system and CRM to ensure data integrity.
- Ensure financial records are complete accurate and compliant with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation while acting as the primary finance contact for external auditors.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Coordinate the annual budgeting process and support organizational planning timelines.
- Assist in preparing financial budgets and reports for grant applications and funder reporting.
- Support cash flow management and forecasting activities.
- Monitor financial performance against organizational strategic goals and key performance indicators.
- Provide financial analysis recommendations and decision-support to leaders across the organization.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to explain financial impacts of operational and program decisions.
- Support grant accounting by ensuring expenditures align with funding restrictions and reporting requirements.
Compliance Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Support HST filings payroll-related reporting and other tax compliance activities.
- Assist with developing and improving internal controls and financial policies.
- Support the preparation of materials for Audit Finance and Risk Committee meetings.
- Assist with the implementation and ongoing optimization of financial systems and reporting tools.
- Provide training and guidance to non-finance staff on financial procedures coding practices and submission requirements.
- Provide backup support to senior finance leadership during temporary absences as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance Business Administration Economics or a related discipline.
- CPA designation or actively pursuing the CPA program is preferred.
- Three to five (35) years of progressive accounting or finance experience including hands-on accounting operations.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience preparing reconciliations financial analyses budgets and forecasts.
- Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial audiences.
- Collaborative approach with experience working across multiple departments.
- High level of integrity professionalism confidentiality and sound judgment.
- Adaptable solutions-oriented and comfortable contributing within a growing organization.
Assets
- Experience working in the non-profit or charitable sector.
- Knowledge of Canadian HST requirements and charitable accounting regulations.
- Experience using NetSuite and Salesforce or comparable ERP and CRM systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including financial modeling and reporting.
- Experience developing dashboards or using business intelligence tools to automate reporting.
- Experience supporting external audits and grant reporting.
- Enrollment in or completion of a professional accounting program.
