Sample Support Technician

Summary :

To assist the overall operation of the Pre-processing department and to ensure all relevant procedures are followed as per the industry standards and provincial regulations. To sort and distribute samples using the Company programme and to provide general support in sample preparation (soil drying/grinding) and archiving of samples. To coordinate and perform certain chemical analysis and complex sample preparation.

Responsabilities:

General lab support including sort and distribute pre-processing & analysis of samples weighing and archiving.

• Follow SAIL and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs/WIs) to ensure accuracy and quality of work.
• Prioritize jobs according to Rush and client specific deadlines to meet required TAT and Hold Time.

• Use summary & NEWTAT reports to plan and organize that all assigned and changing deadlines are consistently met.

• Sorting and scanning of Environmental
• Soil water Air and Food samples as per SOP type and size.
• Subsampling water and soil samples.
• Prepare composite sample as required.
• Deliver sorted samples to respective workgroups promptly.
• Provide input to corrective action procedures.
• Perform chemical analysis on samples and complex sample preparation as per Regulations.

• Conduct test & analysis on samples (Ignitability Moisture Particle size).

• Interpret analytical results Approve and validate data generated. (Level I & Level II validation).
• Preparation of unusual matrix samples and put them to dry e.g. vegetation leaf etc samples.

• Ensure that quality control criteria are met for all reported data.
• Provide input to corrective action procedures.
• Ensure Turnaround Times are met.

• Homogenize soil samples by grinding for preparation of inorganic analysis for HRMS lab and sample prep work using mechanical grinders autoclave & centrifuge.
• Handle samples that are Hazardous Legal International Explosives cautioned etc. appropriately.
• Daily temperature monitoring of ovens and fridges.
• Ensure logbooks and equipment are appropriately maintained and verifications performed.
• Ensure that cross contamination/labelling between samples and other materials does not occur.
• Full utilization of SAIL and LIMS to enable trouble-shooting of any problems that may arise.
• Archive Dispose and Retrieve samples.
• Retrieve samples required for reworks or customer/ lab requests.
• Be audit compliant at all times and provide input to corrective actions.
• Assist with laboratory projects.
• Maintain organize and store away lab supplies as required.
• Follow all laboratory safety rules and regulations diligently.
• Provide support to other members of the section.
• Responsible for ensuring that Good House Keeping standards are followed and sustained at all times. Maintain department in a clean safe and organized manner.
• Other responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor.

Work conditions:

• Technicians are expected to perform repetitive physical work as required and according to deadlines established by their Supervisor.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment with pressing deadlines. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and balancing workload to meet new constraints.
• Require flexible working hours and shift work including weekends.
• Exposure to Hazardous materials is present in this role requiring use of established safety procedures and appropriate equipment to minimize the impact.
• Must be able to lift up to 40Lbs.
