Researcher – Agentic Interaction Engineering

Huawei Canada has an immediate 12-month contract opening for a Researcher.

About the team:

The Huawei Human-Machine Interaction Lab unites global researchers engineers and designers to redefine human technology relationships through user centered hands on research. We focus on agentic AI and multimodal interaction (voice touch vision gesture) across smartphones wearables and emerging devicesadvancing agentic workflows multi-agent orchestration and intuitive human-AI interfaces. By tightly integrating sensing algorithms and systems our prototype driven work ships directly to products enabling seamless task delegation and human AI collaboration at scale.

About the job:

• Design and implement agentic applications that allow AI to dynamically interact with external tools APIs and computer environments.

• Experiment with and implement novel methodologies and techniques (e.g. harness engineering) to enhance task execution leveraging the latest advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs) and autonomous agent systems.

• Work closely with AI researchers engineers and UX/UI designers on projects exploring novel human-AI interactions.

• Apply strong problem-solving skills to develop efficient solutions for complex technical challenges including agent reliability context-window management and error recovery.

• Evaluate and improve the performance token efficiency and reasoning latency of agentic interactions ensuring they meet strict performance standards and user needs.

• Stay informed about the latest trends and advancements in autonomous agents multi-agent systems and human-AI teaming and suggest innovative ideas for agent self-improvement projects.

The total target annual compensation (based on 2080 hours per year) ranges from $106000 - $156000 depending on education experience and demonstrated expertise.

About the ideal candidate:

• PhD Master or Bachelor graduates in Computer Science Electrical Engineering Machine Learning Artificial Intelligence Software Engineering or a related field.

• Strong programming skills in high-level languages essential for AI development (e.g. Python JavaScript/TypeScript C).

• Familiarity with algorithms data structures LLM APIs and prompt engineering.

• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to learn quickly and adapt to the rapidly evolving landscape of AI technologies.

• Passion for artificial intelligence autonomous systems and creating next-generation interfaces designed specifically for human-AI collaboration.

• Understanding of agentic frameworks function calling/tool use Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations or experience managing agent gateways in Linux environments is considered as an asset.
