The role
Help bring research to life and drive your career forward with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) Canadas largest research and technology organization.
We have an opportunity for you. We are looking for a Project Manager to support significant projects in the defense application field at the Digital Technologies Research. The ideal candidate would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity Excellence Respect and Creativity.
As a Project Manager you will help drive collaborative multi-disciplinary revenue-generating projects and applied research initiatives through the following responsibilities while working under the guidance of NRCs scientific and technical authorities who have overall oversight of the project direction.
- Coordinate R&D projects at various TRL levels while supporting scientific and technical authorities in advanced machine vision for defence and security applications.
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans statements of work budgets schedules and risk management frameworks in alignment with NRCs project management standards.
- Coordinate the work of multidisciplinary teams across NRC research centres and partner organizations.
- Coordinate technological trials involving clients other NRC research centres and end-users of the technologies in demanding testing environments. These technologies will include sensor systems deployed on experimental aircraft and drones in various ground vehicles and at ground stations in simulated but realistic scenarios.
- Coordinate procurement activities and follow purchasing progress by communicating with the appropriate NRC and partner organizations to ensure that the delivery of required goods and services meet target deadlines.
- Manage project resources and ensure compliance with NRC financial procurement and security policies.
- Identify and manage project risks implementing mitigation strategies as needed.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing lessons learned and the continuous improvement of NRCs project management practices.
Screening criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Education
Bachelors degree in engineering or science is required.
Graduation in business administration or a program specializing in project management would be an asset.
Formal designation as a Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) from the Project Management Institute (PMI) would be considered an asset.

Experience
- Experience in supporting the management of projects involving multi-disciplinary teams and multi-partner resources.
- Experience in the application of project management and in using project management software tools in a R&D environment.
- Experience in developing and managing effective working relationships between organizations.
- Experience managing complex R&D or technology development projects preferably within the defence security or advanced imaging sectors.
- Experience with government of Canada procurement process is an asset.
- Experience in coordinating and/or organising field trial is an asset.
Condition of employment
Secret clearance
A thorough security clearance process will be applied.
For a Secret Clearance verification of background information over a period of 10 years is required. Individuals must have lived in Canada for a sufficient period of time to enable the security screening process.

- Extensive knowledge of project management theory procedures and practices and project management software tools.
- Knowledge of the business environment relevant to the defence and security industrial sector.
- Working knowledge of performance measurement and/or evaluation frameworks principles and techniques.
- Familiarity with defence and security standards controlled goods regulations and information classification.
- Working knowledge of reporting in the SAP business system software and/or relevant Project Management software.

Compensation
This position is classified as a Research Council Officer (RCO) a group that is unique to the NRC. Candidates are remunerated based on their expertise outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience relative to the requirements of the level. The salary scale for this group is vast from $64739to $183010per annum which permits for employees of all levels from new graduates to world renowned experts to be fairly compensated for their contributions.
In addition the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800per year.
