Position Summary
The Project Accountant supports the financial tracking analysis and reporting of project-related activity across York Groups commercial real estate portfolio. This role focuses onmaintainingstrong cost controls improving internal processes and providingaccuratetimelyfinancial information to support operational decision-making.
Working closely with theAccountingteam and internal stakeholders the Project Accountant delivers project-level financial insight related to tenant improvements landlord work and other property-related initiatives within a commercial real estate environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with theSenior Project Accountant/Controller tomaintainaccurateand detailed project accounting across the commercial real estate portfolio.
- Support theSenior Project Accountantwith budget-to-actual tracking variance analysis and reporting for project-related costs
- Maintain oversight of project budgets quarterly forecasting andmonthly/quarterly reporting in collaboration with internal stakeholders
- Track project-related purchase orders change orders and cost commitments
- Project related accounting tracking ofdevelopment projectnew builds tenant improvements and landlords workin new and existing buildings
- Prepare monthly project accruals and ensure costs are recorded accurately and in theappropriate accountingperiods
- Prepare and distribute monthly and quarterly stakeholder reporting.
- Prepare project-related Work in Progress (WIP) reporting where applicable and support internal review processes.
- Draftproject related financing requests toQualitySurveyors(QS) tofacilitatedraws fromconstruction lenders
- Assistwith process improvements and implementation.
- Provide guidance to Property Administrators on project-related tenant chargebacks and cost allocations
- Other ad hoc tasks as assigned by theController VP Accounting and COO
What you bring to York
- Education with a diploma or degree majoring in accounting
- Minimum5yearsprojectaccountingpreferred
- Minimum 2 years experience in construction or commercial real estate preferred
- Ability to forge grow andmaintainpositive relationships with multiple groups
- Ability to remain objective andmaintaina factual perspective when dealing with questions and inquiries
- Sense of urgency and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictableactivitiescapable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment
- Strong analytical critical thinking troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and a high degree of accuracy with attention to detail
- Highly developed interpersonal communication and organizational skills
