Job Summary
BGC Saskatoon is looking for enthusiastic and caring individual to join our Before and After School and Mini Club team as a Program Supervisor. In this role you will oversee the daily operations of the program provide leadership and direction to staff and ensure a safe engaging and inclusive environment for children and youth.
Position Details
The Before and After School and/or Mini Club Program Supervisor typically works up to 30 hours per week overseeing the daily operations of a large school-age program serving 45 children each day. This role is responsible for ensuring a safe supportive and engaging environment for participants while providing leadership and direction to program staff. Program Supervisors support high-quality programming maintain strong relationships with families and school partners and ensure program standards are met across locations in Saskatoon and surrounding communities including Dalmeny Langham Warman and Whitecap Dakota Nation.
Shifts are available on school days only and may be scheduled before school (approximately 7:15 a.m. to the first bell) after school (approximately 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) or both depending on program needs. Start times vary by location and all shifts are paid for a minimum of three hours.
This position is ideal for post-secondary students stay-at-home parents newcomers to Canada seeking experience or youth entering the workforce. With management approval Program Supervisors may also be able to bring their own non-school-aged children to the program.
Additional opportunities may include providing 1:1 support for children with exceptional needs accepting casual shifts at various locations and working full-time or part-time hours during the summer in our camp programs and early learning centres.
What Youll Do
Every day can look a little different in the Before and After School/Mini Club Programs; as such Program Supervisors need to be flexible and responsive to the needs of the program leaders and participants. Program Supervisors are expected to be punctual as well as have a reliable method of transportation (city transit/vehicle) to ensure that programs open on time.
Program Supervisors will provide respectful inclusive and quality programs by committing to:
- Coordinating programming delegating tasks maintaining strong communication with families schools and management.
- Supporting their team in delivering high-quality recreational educational and physical activity opportunities each day.
- Attending monthly meetings at the main office and picking up program supplies.
- Planning daily activities that provide opportunities for children to develop and enhance skills based on their interests and the principles of healthy childhood development
- Treat children and youth with respect acceptance and honesty
- Actively supervise groups of children (ratio of 1 program leader to 15 children) and ensure children feel physically and emotionally safe & secure
- Use positive guidance and behavior management practices
- Interact with participants in a patient interested understanding and caring manner
- Daily communication with parents/guardians
- Work communicate and collaborate as part of a team (program leaders managers supervisors and school administration)
- Maintain and submit monthly attendance records and month end documentation.
Support Youll Receive
The Before & After School Program Supervisors are supported by a team of program managers and supervisors who will assist with:
- Program supplies and materials
- Scheduling and time-off requests
- Program evaluations
- Problem-solving and resource support
- Communication with parents and school administration (as needed)
- Bi-weekly payroll processing.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Minimum age of 16 and legally entitled to work in Canada.
- 2 to 3 years of experience working with children and youth.
- Experience in childcare education recreation coaching or related volunteer roles.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate programming.
- Strong communication organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- CPR/First Aid Certification (required within two months of hire).
- CLB Level 6 or higher is an asset.
- Commitment to completing all required training upon hire.
Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

This training will provide Program Supervisors with information regarding safety information program policies & organizational procedures.
Wage
$17.20 per hour
