Program Coordinator Youth Services-KYS

ABOUT THE JOB

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Program Coordinator to join our Youth Services team in Kamloops. This leadership role oversees programs that support youth experiencing homelessness crisis family conflict and other complex challenges.

Position Overview

As the Program Coordinator Youth Services you will provide operational oversight staff leadership and community collaboration across the following programs:

Kamloops Youth Shelter Provides safe short-term shelter and support services for youth ages 1318 experiencing homelessness family conflict or crisis.

Youth ReConnect A prevention-focused program supporting youth ages 1323 through advocacy community connection and family support.

Safe Spaces A supportive and inclusive program that fosters connection belonging and wellbeing for LGBTQIA2S youth and allies.

The Program Coordinator ensures programs operate effectively align with organizational values and contractual requirements and provide high-quality person-centered services for youth. This role includes staff leadership program development community collaboration and operational oversight.

Key Responsibilities

Shared Responsibilities Across Programs

• Oversee the daily operations and service delivery of youth programs.
• Provide leadership supervision mentorship and support to program staff.
• Participate in hiring onboarding training scheduling performance management and staff development.
• Ensure programs operate in alignment with organizational policies and quality standards.
• Monitor program budgets and approve expenditures within assigned authority levels.
• Foster collaborative relationships with community agencies schools healthcare providers Indigenous organizations and government partners.
• Support program planning evaluation and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensure accurate documentation reporting and file management practices.
• Promote a culturally safe trauma-informed inclusive and youth-centered service environment.
• Participate in community initiatives advocacy efforts and interagency collaboration related to youth wellbeing and homelessness prevention.

Please note that the specific programs overseen by this position may change over time to include related programs as determined by organizational needs and priorities.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

• Degree (Preferred) or Diploma in a related field including Social Work Human Services Youth and Child Care Psychology Sociology Indigenous Studies etc.
• Two (2) years of related experience working with at-risk youth in areas such as housing outreach or justice programs coupled with at least one (1) year of leadership program management experience.
• Or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES

• Strong leadership coaching and team supervision skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities with youth staff and community partners.
• Strong organizational time management and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage priorities of multiple programs.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practice harm reduction culturally appropriate care.
• Effective de-escalation and crisis intervention skills
• Proficient in report writing databases and Microsoft Office applications.
• Understanding of youth services community resources and relevant legislation.
• Awareness of Indigenous cultural practices and challenges facing Indigenous youth.
• Ability to maintain professionalism confidentiality and ethical standards.

REQUIREMENTS

• Valid Class 5 Drivers License (or equivalent) with a safe driving record.
• Access to a reliable vehicle with Business Use insurance coverage of $5M liability (additional insurance costs reimbursed).
• Willingness to complete required training provided at no cost including First Aid/CPR Mandt-RCT SafeTALK Naloxone Safe Food Handling Privacy and Abuse & Neglect Awareness training. Existing certifications are considered an asset.
• Ability to travel within the service area within Kamloops.
• Successful completion of an MCFD Hub Search including criminal record and vulnerable sector checks.
• Union membership required including a 1.85% union dues deduction.
• Ability to participate in the after-hours on-call rotation as scheduled.

PROGRAM: Youth Services

LOCATION: Kamloops BC

STATUS: Full-time

HOURS of WORK: 40 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday Daytime schedule with flexibility for occasional evening and weekend work.

After-hours on-call responsibility:

• Mon-Fri after 4:30 PM for Kamloops Youth Shelter
• Some weekends on a rotational basis with the rest of the On-call team for all youth programs.

REPORTS TO: Manager of Child Family and Youth Services

COMPENSATION: $33.77- $38.77 per hour (Grid 14 as per collective agreement ; compensation subject to recently ratified wage increases not yet implemented)
