We are looking for a strategic detail-oriented Production Manager to drive the operational and financial success of our Unscripted department.

The Role

As the Production Manager you will oversee the comprehensive financial logistical and operational management of content produced for the CBC Unscripted department across TV audio and digital platforms.

You will ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget while actively contributing to CBCs strategic priorities: creating content that reflects Canadas diversity engages younger audiences captures local narratives and drives revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management & Reporting

  • Budgeting & Planning: Create comprehensive production plans and budgets in collaboration with Producers and Senior Management.

  • Fiscal Oversight: Control expenditures evaluate financial status continuously analyze budget variances and execute corrective courses of action to maintain budget integrity.

  • Reporting: Prepare and manage production funds cost reports expense management (TEMS) and month-end/quarter-end/year-end financial reporting (including commitment reports and accrual calculations).

2. Production Logistics & Operations

  • End-to-End Coordination: Oversee all logistical aspects of pre-production production and post-production including remote location and office logistics.

  • Procurement: Source and negotiate contracts for goods services and external suppliers to maximize production value within budgetary constraints.

  • Workflow Optimization: Manage daily operational workflows delegating responsibilities in conjunction with Senior Managers and Producers to ensure smooth unit operations.

3. Labor Contracts & Team Leadership

  • Contract Administration: Partner with Business Affairs and Legal departments to initiate prepare and administer freelance talent and vendor contracts.

  • Labor Relations: Interpret and apply industry business practices internal CBC policies and collective talent/labor agreements.

  • Team Oversight: Manage daily activities of the unit staff guide contributors on policies/procedures and determine optimal staffing and freelance recruitment strategies.

  • Stakeholder Relations: Collaborate with National and International Organizing Committees to execute digital content partnerships efficiently.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience: Proven experience as a Production Manager Production Supervisor or Line Producer specifically within unscripted factual or documentary content across broadcast and digital platforms.

  • Financial Acumen: Advanced expertise in production accounting budget creation forecasting variance analysis and year-end financial reporting.

  • Labour & Legal Knowledge: Strong familiarity with Canadian media labour unions guild agreements (e.g. CMF ACTRA) and standard broadcast legal practices.

  • Negotiation Skills: Demonstrated ability to negotiate competitive rates with vendors suppliers and freelance talent.
