The Role:

The role of Production & Distribution Supervisor supports the launch and operation of our new produce processing facility within the Second Harvest warehouse at 120 the East Mall. The Production & Distribution Supervisor oversees daily production of food for distribution to our network of non-profit partners ensuring food safety quality operational efficiency and regulatory compliance. As part of the Supply Chain team this role will establish production standards optimize workflows and support a scalable processing operation.

Your Impact:

  • Supervise daily fruit and vegetable processing operations from receiving through packaging ensuring production targets quality standards and temperature controls are met.
  • Plan and coordinate production schedules to align with inventory levels incoming supply and distribution requirements.
  • Monitor production performance by tracking throughput yield waste downtime and labour efficiency and reporting results to leadership.
  • Maintain accurate production inventory and traceability records to support operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations sanitation standards allergen controls and internal quality assurance programs.
  • Investigate food safety and quality concerns manage non-conforming products implement corrective actions and support audits and inspections.
  • Oversee the safe operation inspection maintenance and repair coordination of processing and packaging equipment and production facilities.
  • Manage production staffing needs by scheduling training coaching and supervising employees temporary workers and volunteers while fostering a safe and inclusive workplace.
  • Coordinate packing labeling inventory and shipment preparation while collaborating with warehouse and logistics teams to meet distribution schedules.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process efficiencies managing production supplies and parts inventory and communicating operational risks issues and performance updates.

You Are:

Required:

  • 35 years of experience in food production or manufacturing.
  • Supervisory experience in a production environment.
  • Knowledge of food safety quality and regulatory compliance systems.
  • Experience managing production schedules staffing and operational targets.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and production management systems.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding production environments.
  • Strong organizational problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Process-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Detail-oriented with strong planning and record-keeping abilities.
  • Commitment to EDI accessibility (AODA) environmental stewardship and Second Harvests mission to reduce food waste and increase food access.

Preferred:

  • HACCP certification.
  • Experience in fresh produce processing.
  • Warehouse and distribution operations experience.
  • First Aid and/or forklift certification.
  • Experience supervising temporary labour and volunteer teams.

Working Conditions:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Regular lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Working in refrigerated wet and food-processing environments.
  • Exposure to industrial processing and packaging equipment.
  • Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Flexibility to support both production and warehouse operations as needed.
