Reporting to the Plant Manager the Procurement Specialist will play a key role in supporting plant operations by ensuring timely cost-effective procurement of materials and services while building strong supplier relationships.

Position Overview

The Procurement Specialist will work closely with the Plant Manager and leadership team to provide operational procurement support for a fast-paced and growing pork processing facility. This role is responsible for strategic sourcing supplier management contract administration inventory support and driving cost-saving initiatives while ensuring uninterrupted production operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end Request for Proposal (RFP) processes including preparation supplier evaluation negotiations and contract execution.
  • Source and procure manufacturing supplies to support uninterrupted production.
  • Negotiate pricing contracts and service agreements with vendors while building strong supplier relationships.
  • Coordinate with the Production Manager and Supervisors to monitor inventory levels of operational supplies including uniforms chemicals cardboard boxes packaging materials bags and other consumables.
  • Monitor contract expiration dates and proactively manage renewals or initiate competitive sourcing activities.
  • Serve as the plants subject matter expert for Purchase Orders (POs) vendor setup and procurement processes.
  • Provide training and support to internal stakeholders on procurement systems and best practices.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and track procurement performance metrics.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations Production Finance and suppliers to improve procurement efficiency and ensure compliance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to operational excellence.




Requirements


Qualifications

  • 24 years of professional procurement purchasing supply chain or related experience.
  • Candidates with less experience but a strong willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business Administration Supply Chain Purchasing Logistics Finance or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using ERP systems is considered an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
  • Experience reviewing drafting negotiating or administering contracts.
  • Excellent analytical organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Strong customer service mindset with excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.

Work Environment

  • Full-time on-site position based at the manufacturing facility.
  • Primarily office-based with regular interaction on the production floor to support operational procurement activities.
