Work Location
This position will be based in Saskatoon SK. The associated work schedule will be 40 hours per week Monday to Friday. Hybrid working (flexible shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.

The Challenge Ahead
As a Principal Tech Mining Engineering Potash you will form part of the small BHP Invent global mining domain innovation team.You will report to the Manager Mining and Geotechnical and be responsible for the development and delivery of a balanced portfolio of concepts & technology innovations consolidated into the product development roadmaps. You will also provide relevant technical subject matter expertise working in close partnership with our assets and the broader BHP business making BHP a more innovative productive safer and more sustainable enterprise.
Accountabilities with the biggest impact:
- Development of Technology Product Roadmaps that meet asset requirements and unlock future growth and value across short medium and long-term horizons.
- Develop the technical risk-based learning plans risk registers budgets and demonstration plans for technologies to be effectively and efficiently developed through the innovation pipeline from early phases of maturity to be ready for onsite demonstration of technical practical and economic viability
- Diagnose the change environment defines and articulates the case for change and determines the approach tools and methods required to successfully deliver the change.
- Maintain a wide network of impact integrates functions operations and regions and solves complex challenges to drive strong functional/asset integration across BHP
- Apply an understanding of the business context BHP operating model and ways of working to enhance decision making productivity and value chain performance.
- Define value drivers and determines the boundaries of an opportunity to determine if it is worth further investment.
- Conduct presentations and facilitates workshops using storytelling to connect influence and engage the audience.
- Plan deliver and manage projects to generate value and drive the achievement of project outcomes.
- Identify and assesses risks makes risk informed decisions uses BHPs risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
- Apply a scientific methodology to investigate various hypotheses or questions and draw inferences on possible solutions.
What Youll Bring to the Role
- Mining Engineer (or similar) with 10 years of experience mostly in underground mechanical potash mining. A wide range of operational and technology development exposure is preferred.
- A good knowledge of automation geotechnical geophysical solution extraction and software development processes in mining is desirable.
- Passion for innovation and proven ability to identify and develop technologies from early phase through to onsite piloting using innovation methodologies.
- Relevant project management experience to develop and manage technical work programs with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Technical expertise to apply technical knowledge into system thinking assess work program outcomes/results and make data-driven and value-based recommendations for business decisions.
- Ability to think strategically and assess multiple future scenarios.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Graduate degree in Mining Engineering or related fields. Post graduate preferred.
