Position Summary:
Reporting to the Corporate Controller the Payroll & Accounting Clerk is responsible for completing payroll-related activities accounts receivable functions bookkeeping support reconciliations and administrative duties. Services are to be delivered in a professional manner ensuring accuracy confidentiality and compliance with organizational policies and legislative requirements. As part of a collaborative team the Payroll & Accounting Clerk actively participates in problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives to support the goals and purpose of DASCH.
Role & Responsibilities:
Payroll Responsibilities
- Set up new employees in payroll and HR systems ensuring employment payroll tax and benefit information is entered accurately.
- Process employee status changes including transfers compensation updates benefit changes leaves and terminations.
- Review verify and process payroll information including timesheets earnings deductions and benefit changes.
- Perform payroll calculations reconciliations and payroll balancing activities.
- Prepare and process statutory remittances and retirement savings plan contributions.
- Complete year-end payroll activities including T4 preparation and reporting.
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries and support monthly payroll accruals.
- Generate payroll reports and respond to payroll and benefits inquiries.
- Prepare Records of Employment and other payroll-related documentation.
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of employee payroll and benefits information.
Accounting Responsibilities
- Oversee the accounts receivable cycle from billing through collection.
- Generate and distribute invoices and maintain accurate billing records.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up on overdue accounts.
- Process direct payments and bank deposits.
- Initiate bank transfers and support cash management activities.
- Prepare and reverse monthly accruals including payroll-related accruals.
- Enter payroll and accounting journal entries.
- Respond to billing inquiries and investigate account discrepancies.
- Provide bookkeeping administrative and general accounting support as required.
- Assist with month-end audit preparation reporting and other accounting projects.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Completion of a certificate or diploma program in Accounting Payroll Finance or a related field.
- Minimum one to two years of experience in payroll accounting accounts receivable or a related office environment.
- Payroll certification is considered an asset.
- Experience with payroll systems QuickBooks and Microsoft Office particularly Excel.
- Strong mathematical analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
Work Hours:
- Full-Time 12-Month Term Position
- Monday to Friday 35 Hours per Week
