Job Description:

The incumbent provides technical expertise and performs a variety of tasks necessary to support the faculty and students in the Applied Museum Studies program under the direction of the Chair Design Studies. Duties will include the responsibility for clinic and lab setup/modification and equipment rollover conducting skills demonstrations providing individualized assistance to students assisting in administration of tests skills assessments and evaluations and ensuring sufficient materials inventories are available for student assignments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• clinic and lab setup/modification in consultation with faculty;

• assisting with dismantling lab stations and performing general cleanup after labs;

• maintaining general purpose and specialized tools instruments and equipment used in the program including industrial saws drills routers oxy/acetylene brazing etc.

• organizing safe storage of all chemical substances fluids and compressed gases according to safety instructions;

• maintaining and ordering disposable inventory for all labs in consultation with faculty and the Chair;

• making recommendations in consultation with faculty for new equipment and materials based on research of current industry trends;

• demonstrating and reinforces lab techniques and safe working habits as taught by faculty;

• supervising the safe use of power tools and chemical substances during class and open lab sessions;

• assisting with administering tests skills assessments and evaluations as directed by faculty;

• assisting in orienting new and part-time faculty to laboratory procedures;

• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Three (3) year diploma/degree in Museum Studies Conservation Exhibit Preparation Fine Arts or equivalent;

• Minimum three (3) years of experience;

• Preferably Experience in the cultural/movable Heritage sector and/or in a lab environment related to the position;

• Hands-on experience with lab setup modification and teardown;

• Proficiency in maintaining using and supervising a variety of general-purpose and specialized tools instruments and equipment;

• Knowledge of safe storage and handling of chemical substances fluids and compressed gases;

• Strong understanding of lab safety protocols and procedures;

• Excellent organizational skills for maintaining and ordering inventory and ensuring safe storage of materials;

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively;

• Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical issues related to lab equipment and setup;

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with faculty staff and learners;

• Experience in the cultural/movable heritage sector is an asset;

• Experience working with learners in a classroom/lab setting is an asset.
