Job Description:

PLEASE READ EMPLOYMENT STIPULATIONS FOR POSITION PRIOR TO APPLYING

Students applying to this position must be in receipt of OSAP or out-of-province assistance during the current or prior academic year or must have a demonstrated financial need determined using Financial Aid and Student Awards standardized needs and assessment budget calculation tool.

Reporting to the Manager Student Learning Centre & Libraries the incumbent provides assistance to library patrons using the campus library and online services. Assists as required in the maintenance of library materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintains the integrity of patron records in the integrated library system;

  • Provides guidance to patrons in the use of resources;

  • Assists clients with technical issues (computers printers scanners photocopier);

  • Provides general information and problem-solving;

  • Performs duties such as straightening furniture shelving materials as required;

  • Provides front desk services and telephone responses.

Requirements for this position include:
  • This position is funded through the College Student Employment Program (CSEP). Applicants must be eligible for CSEP.

  • You must be currently enrolled in a full-time program. The following students arenot eligible: Second Career Apprenticeship Programs International students Algonquin College employees paying a reduced tuition Collaborative programs with the University of Ottawa or Carleton University and all programs that are not Ministry-approved;

  • You must be a Canadian citizen a Permanent Resident or a Protected Person/Convention Refugee within the meaning of subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) prior to the application deadline date;

  • You must demonstrate a financial need by successfullyapplying for OSAP or out-of-province financial aid funding

For more information on CSEP:

School (Grade 12) diploma;

  • Ability to work independently prioritize tasks and complete projects with minimal direction;

  • Must be self-motivated and self-directed;

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Successfully able to multi-task and possess a high attention to detail:

  • Proficient communication skills (oral and written);

  • A proven ability to exercise a high level of confidentiality discretion diplomacy and sound judgement pertaining to access to private and secure information;

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint);

  • Previous work experience in a Library or office environment would be considered an asset.

  • Anticipated Schedule:

    Up to 15 hours per week (flexible)

    This position isfully onsite at Ottawa Campus.
