Position Information:

Part-timeCounsellor: contract opportunity September 2026 to April 2027
Hourly rate: Academic starting wages are determined based on qualifications andyears of related experience. Upon hire the incumbent will receive a paycalculation to determine their placement within the pay range.
Hours: 21 hours per week (8 a.m. 4p.m.) Mondays Tuesdays and Fridays

Duties and Responsibilities:

The part-time Counsellorprovides individual counselling support through the Access and Support Centre(ASC) to support students with disabilities/exceptionalities mental healthpersonal and academic/vocational concerns. They are responsible for conductingassessments utilizing screening tools to screen students with suspectedlearning disabilities ADHD ASD and emerging mental health concerns. The part-timeCounsellor will implement short-term counselling and psychotherapeuticinterventions while maintaining clinical records in accordance with relevantlegal and privacy standards.

The part-time Counsellorwill review and interpret individual psycho-educational assessment reports ormedical documentation in order to identify processing strengths and weaknessesand academic impacts. They will beresponsible for assisting students with learning disabilities for identify anddevelop compensatory strategies and tools needed to reduce functional impactsin the academic environment and promote academic success.

• Support students in understanding their functional limitations and how it impacts their learning in order to promote self-awareness self-advocacy skills.

• Demonstrated experience to offer evidence-based brief therapeutic interventions from various modalities such as CBT and Solution Focused Therapy
  
• Administer screening tools conduct assessments including risk assessments in order to make appropriate recommendations for support treatment and referrals
  
• Strong working knowledge of mental health and accessibility issues as well as experience supporting students with complex mental health challenges and accessibility needs.
  
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing development of equity diversity inclusion belonging competencies as well as wholistic anti-oppressive and decolonizing practices within a counselling environment
  
• Develop communicate and assist in the implementation of individual learning strategies support in order to develop the students general academic and metacognitive skills.
  
• Provide consultation to ASC staff and to faculty on individual student needs relating to accessibility.

Qualifications:

• A Masters degree in Social work Psychology Counselling Psychology Education or a related discipline from an accredited program.
  
• Registration with a recognized regulatory college/body in good standing; under the Regulated Health Professions Act able to perform the Controlled Act of Psychotherapy.
  
• Preference will be given to candidates with 1-3 years relevant experience working with students in a post-secondary environment.
  
• Experience working with psychological assessments is an asset in order to understand the differential diagnosis of LD and AD/HD and mental health diagnoses
  
• Superb judgement interpersonal and time management skills required.
  
• Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
  
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students faculty support staff administrators and community stakeholders.
  
• Understanding of the Ontario college system.
