ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Supervisor Linear operationsthis position is responsible for performing linear operations and maintenance activities under the guidance of senior staff. Provides technical support to water and wastewater infrastructure including installation troubleshooting testing and repair of mechanical systems components and equipment and assists in design of project work as needed. Meets Provincial acts and regulations and Regional standards for water treatment water distribution and supply wastewater treatment and wastewater collections.

WHAT YOULL BE DOING

• Performs operations and maintenance activities supporting linear operations.
• Performs daily checks and analysis on the operation of equipment and adjusts process controls to optimize effluent quality and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
• Maintains analyze and performs repairs on a variety of equipment related to water and wastewater operations as per applicable codes.
• Performs preventive and condition-based maintenance tasks on mechanical assets as required at all linear systems.
• Provides technical input regarding equipment modifications during capital project design condition assessments and process optimization projects as required.
• Participates in the design installation commissioning and handover of new equipment to ensure all equipment is installed correctly and functions efficiently as per relevant asset management standards.
• Provides input to reports as assigned and maintains data logs.
• Conducts sampling activities and records results to ensure adherence to applicable Acts and Regulations.
• Performs operator activities to the level of certification obtained in accordance with Regional and Provincial standards.
• Responsible for performing Operator-in-Charge functions as defined by applicable Acts and Regulations assuming accountability for work performed as assigned by the supervisor or designate.
• Participates in performance metrics planning activities as required.
• Acts as the designated Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) in accordance with Provincial Acts and Regulations as assigned by the supervisor or designate.
• Responds to inquiries and resolves concerns as appropriate.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

• Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Mechanical Millwright (433A).
• Successful completion of MECP Operators Licence in Water Distribution & Supply OIT and Wastewater Collection OIT within six months of hire.
• Successful completion of Level 1 and 2 MECP Operators License in designated area within regulated time period.
• Minimum four (4) years related experience in maintenance and troubleshooting preferably in water and wastewater environment including experience in mechanical equipment and pump maintenance procedures.
• Must have completed or be able to successfully complete within six months of hire courses in CPR and First Aid Confined Space Entry and Mobile Crane operation and equipment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the TSSA CSA Building Code Safe Drinking Water Act Reg. 903 and regulations pertaining to environmental and safety aspects in operations and maintenance of water and wastewater.
• Demonstrated knowledge of system hydraulics.
• Knowledge of the OH&S Act and relevant Provincial Acts and Regulations.
• As a condition of employment candidates are required to complete a medical assessment that measures their functional abilities and confirms their immunization is in accordance with the requirement laid out under clause 25(2)(h) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act)
• Demonstrated ability in the Regions core competencies.
• Familiarity with Statistical Process Control technique in using PCS/SCADA to manage and operate water and wastewater operations and quality management systems.
• Basic skills in virtual platforms and MS Office Suite.
• Ability to interpret operating manuals and engineering drawings relevant to design and construction and the operation of equipment.
• Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations to determine chemical dosages and flow rates and ability to apply laboratory procedures and sampling techniques.
• Physical stamina and ability to climb on or into elevated tanks work in confined spaces manholes sewers treatment tanks and wet wells and work with hazardous chemicals and near high voltage electrical equipment.
• Ability to physically withstand long periods of standing walking climbing and heavy lifting; work in a noisy environment and work in all/extreme weather conditions.
• Ability to wear a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus to enter confined spaces.
• Valid Ontario Class G drivers license free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
• Availability and ability to perform standby duties; respond to emergency situations and work outside normal scheduled hours as required.
