The Platforms Branch helps Government of Alberta product teams deliver digital products and services more effectively by providing shared platform capabilities reusable components and common data services.
Role Responsibilities
The Platform branch seeks a Manager Quality Assurance (QA) reporting to the Director Common Platforms. This role oversees a quality assurance team of 9-15 staff and contingent labor in a matrix delivery environment and ensures delivery quality across Platform teams.
As a Manager Quality Assurance your primary responsibility is to foster an environment that enables QA team to consistently deliver high-quality results. This involves aligning the teams efforts with the established platform roadmaps and branch priorities providing ongoing support to both staff and contingent workers proactively identifying and eliminating obstacles to progress coordinating delivery activities and ensuring that the teams output is reliable adaptable reusable and sustainable for the long term.
The responsibilities of this role include:
- Lead a QA delivery team of 9-15 staff and contingent labor setting direction priorities standards and expectations for effective quality delivery.
- Translate platform roadmaps and release priorities into clear QA delivery plans including scope sequencing dependencies risks trade-offs and readiness criteria.
- Establish consistent testing practices quality standards reusable test assets and common measures that support reliable secure accessible and reusable platform capabilities.
- Advance automated testing AI-enabled quality practices continuous testing and quality engineering strategies to improve coverage efficiency and long-term platform reliability.
- Provide leadership coaching and operational oversight to support QA team performance professional growth workload management and delivery effectiveness.
- Advise leadership on quality risks release readiness defect trends testing priorities and delivery decisions to support branch planning and cross-government coordination.
- Work with Delivery Managers product teams architects operations and security partners to align test planning quality gates release timelines and platform deliverables.
To be successful in this position you will demonstrate:
- Ability to use quality analysis user impact defect trends and service data to identify risks and guide test delivery decisions.
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills to align QA priorities across product delivery development security operations and business partners.
- Sound judgment and working knowledge of QA delivery test planning defect management release readiness governance and risk-based approaches in complex delivery environments.
- Ability to lead responsible adoption of AI tools test automation and agentic workflows in accountable measurable QA and delivery practices.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- A university degree in a related field (e.g. Computer Science Information Technology Business Social Sciences Public Administration) supplemented by four (4) years of progressively responsible related experience.
- Experience leading QA delivery including test planning defect management privacy accessibility release readiness and quality oversight to support secure inclusive and reliable cloud-based shared-services platform or enterprise product delivery environments.
- Experience leading QA teams and coordinating testing workstreams in matrixed environments with product delivery development security and operations partners.
- Experience modernizing QA practices through test automation continuous testing AI-enabled tools and defining measurable quality success criteria.
- A cover letter clearly demonstrating relevant quality assurance leadership delivery management experience and competencies tailored to this position.
Equivalencies:
- A related masters degree and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience; or
- A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; or
- A related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or
- A minimum of eight (8) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.
Assets:
- Experience building quality dashboards metrics frameworks or reporting practices that turn service data user feedback defect trends and test results into actionable delivery insights.
- Experience enabling platform consumers through QA guidance service onboarding reusable test approaches cross-team dependency management and support for common data or internal developer-facing services.
- Experience supporting quality practice adoption through stakeholder engagement test guidance communication materials operational handoff and continuous improvement of QA processes.
