Job Summary
Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canadas only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta British Columbia and Washington state.
Trans Mountain also operates a state-of-the-art loading facility Westridge Marine Terminal with three berths providing tidewater access to global markets.
As a federal Crown corporation Trans Mountain continues to build on more than 70 years of experience delivering operational and safety excellence through our crude oil pipeline system.
With our expanded pipeline system now in place Trans Mountain provides enhanced direct access for Canadian crude oil to world markets. Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative motivated and values driven individual to join our dynamic team as Manager Business this position you will play a key role in enhancing the effectiveness alignment and operational performance of the Major Projects organization. The role leads business planning organizational enablement technology adoption process improvement supports governance coordination and executive reporting activities that support the successful delivery of the departments strategic objectives. Working across project corporate and operational functions the Manager acts as a central integrator ensuring priorities initiatives and organizational capabilities are aligned to support current and future Major Projects delivery requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of organizational strategies business plans and priorities in collaboration with the VP Major Projects. Responsible for establishing operating rhythms and governance frameworks that enable successful delivery of the Major Projects portfolio. Manage business performance improvement through strategic alignment of people processes and systems.
- Responsible for the strategic planning process for the Major Projects business unit encompassing priority-setting success metric definition and enterprise alignment. Lead the development of executive-level content presentations and briefing materials that inform decision-making at the senior leadership and Board level.
- Manage the technology enablement strategy for Major Projects functioning as the executive sponsor for digital transformation initiatives. Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of system implementations encompassing business case development requirements definition change management and adoption measurement. Responsible for championing innovation and emerging technologies including AI to elevate organizational capabilities.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives and working groups to achieve strategic priorities defined by Major Projects Senior Leadership. Manage relationships with shared service functions including PMO Human Resources Organizational Change Management and Information Technology serving as the senior liaison and escalation point. Responsible for integrated delivery and resolution of cross-functional dependencies.
- Responsible for the continuous improvement agenda for Major Projects including process optimization governance enhancements and operational excellence initiatives. Manage third-party vendor relationships and contracts to guarantee quality delivery of business enablement services. Lead the definition of performance metrics and reporting frameworks to assess and communicate organizational effectiveness. Project manage 3rd party service providers to enable efficient and coordinated delivery of tactics for business enablement.
- Manage strategic relationships with senior stakeholders at the VP Director and C-suite level across the organization. Responsible for representing Major Projects in enterprise-wide forums and initiatives. Lead negotiations to advance organizational priorities and secure resources.
- Responsible for serving as a trusted strategic advisor to the VP Major Projects on emerging business challenges organizational risks and growth opportunities. Lead the anticipation of issues and formulation of recommendations grounded in rigorous analysis and stakeholder engagement.
- Manage high-priority strategic initiatives and special projects as assigned by the VP Major Projects. Responsible for mobilizing resources and leading execution on time-sensitive organizational priorities.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
- Post-secondary education in Commerce Business Administration Finance Economics Engineering Science or related discipline.
- A Master of Business Administration or another advanced degree is considered an asset.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive experience including direct exposure to major projects; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Project management experience is considered an asset particularly in understanding the needs of an owner/operator project organization.
- Experience in major pipeline projects across different disciplines including exposure to commercial agreements and contracts.
- Demonstrated experience in people leadership or senior supervisory roles with accountability for team performance and delivery in fast-paced deadline-driven environments and a proven ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams to successfully achieve defined business objectives and desired outcomes.
- Technology experience such as digital enablement systems implementations or process automation.
- Previous experience working with AI is considered an asset.
- Experience in the oil and gas industry with Midstream industry experience strongly preferred.
- Collaborative and supportive leader with a passion for mentoring coaching developing talent fostering teamwork and guiding others through difficult conversations with empathy tact diplomacy and discretion.
- A consistent track record of delivering highquality work managing competing priorities and supporting key business processes or operational functions.
- Experience supporting Board of Directors meetings through the development of reports presentations and strategic briefing materials is considered an asset.
- Strong ability to build and maintain collaborative trust-based relationships with colleagues stakeholders and leaders across diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly respectfully professionally and with sound judgment in both routine and high-stakes situations.
- Demonstrated ability to translate technical requirements into clear business outcomes and organizational value.
- Commitment to inclusive practices and a willingness to contribute positively to a collaborative and supportive workplace culture.
