Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (OR Qualified) provides practical nursing services in an operating room environment as a member of an integrated surgical team performing varied and complex surgical interventions. Consults confers and collaborates with other members of the surgical team in facilitating safe and effective surgical interventions through the performance of circulating duties and scrubbing in accordance with established standards and protocols. This includes pre-operative intraoperative and post-operative activities such as assessing planning implementing evaluating and documenting client care and providing support to clients and their families.
The LPN OR operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice with the Standards of Practice for LPNs as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives and according to Employers operating policies and standards and unit specific protocols.
Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BC College of Nurses and Midwives). Graduation from a recognized accredited OR program for Licensed Practical Nurses plus two (2) years recent related experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in acute medical/surgical care or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
Current basic cardiac life support certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge and competencies of full scope of Practice currently required by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.

- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all members of the interdisciplinary team throughout all aspects of patient care.
- Demonstrated ability for good observation and patient/client assessment skills and recognizing the need to seek assistance when required.

- Ability to collaborate with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position including standing for long periods of time pushing/pulling equipment and lifting equipment up to 25 lbs.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work for self and others while also responding to and prioritizing the requests/needs of the surgical team.
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment including computer and a variety of windows based software and surgical equipment/supplies.
- Ability to think critically and problem solve.
- Provide culturally sensitive care and services.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of interdisciplinary teams.
- Maintain a commitment to continued professional development as required by the employer and/or the College.
