Why Your Role Matters:
As an LMS Engineer youll play a critical role in shaping how learning is delivered and experienced across the University. Sitting at the intersection of technology and education you will design build and enhance learning platforms that enable seamless engaging and scalable digital learning experiences for staff and students.

In this role your expertise will ensure that LMS solutions are not only technically robust but also aligned to the evolving needs of the University. By leveraging both out-of-the-box capabilities and developing tailored solutions across cloud and on-premise environments youll help deliver flexible integrated systems that connect with a broader technology ecosystem and support innovation in teaching and learning.

Working closely with developers and stakeholders youll guide best-practice solution development using agile and iterative methodologies driving continuous improvement and high-quality outcomes. Your ability to bridge technical and functional domains will ensure that platforms are reliable secure and fit-for-purpose.

Ultimately your work will directly contribute to enhancing UNSWs digital learning environmentensuring that systems are efficient scalable and capable of supporting world-class education now and into the future.

Purpose of the role:

Deliver the technical build configuration and integration work required to stand up UNSWs new Learning Management System (LMS) and support the platform and ecosystem commitments through to go-live noting the new LMS application has not yet been announced.

Key responsibilities

1. Platform configuration and build

Configure LMS toolsets features org structure (faculties courses communities) home pages widgets and dashboards in line with UNSW requirements.

Support role and permissions configuration (scoped roles at system faculty course and assessment level)

Configure institutional branding course templates and blueprint courses

2. Integrations

Assist with the development of integrations between LMS and UNSW systems of record (PeopleSoft/SIS Entra ID/SSO Turnitin Inspera Leganto STACK and other LTI tools) using the LMS vendor Standard CSV APIs and LTI Advantage standards

Work with the integration

Support SSO/identity configuration work delivered through the LMS vendor Professional Services during implementation

3. Data reporting and analytics

Assist with support Data Hub exports Insights Dashboards and course-level dashboards for institutional reporting

Coordinate with the Data Engineer roles on data flows into UNSWs reporting/BI environment

4. Testing and quality

Support configuration testing against acceptance criteria developed with UNSW stakeholders

Work with the Test teams on test planning and defect resolution

5. Migration support

Support course conversion/migration activity from the incumbent LMS working with thenewLMS bulk migration tooling and UNSWs export packages

Work with learning designers to remediate migration issues

6. Business case and program delivery support

Support stage-gate and governance reporting to the LMS Steering Committee ITPMO and Student Systems Reference Group as required

Skills and Experience Summary:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience with strong expertise across multiple technology domains (e.g. web applications cloud platforms infrastructure databases security).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse design and implement complex technical solutions applying new technologies and concepts.
  • Strong experience working in Agile delivery environments with a focus on iterative and high-quality solution outcomes.
  • Proficiency using delivery and workflow management tools (e.g. JIRA MS TFS) to track and manage work.
  • Experience preparing and executing test cases with a solid understanding of end-to-end testing practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills with a proven ability to build strong working relationships across IT and the business.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative and adaptable team player able to work independently while coaching and supporting others on complex delivery.
  • Strong customer focus negotiation and problem-resolution skills with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
