The Laboratory Assistant provides operational support for laboratory freezer inventory management. The role applies established procedures and system requirements to maintain accurate records in mySample supports consistent storage practices and contributes to the effective operation of freezer inventory systems.
This role will:
Apply established procedures and data standards to catalogue label and record samples in mySample
Maintain accurate inventory records and reconcile physical samples against system data
Identify and investigate discrepancies and implement corrective actions within established guidelines
Organise freezer storage to improve accessibility and efficient use of space
Interpret and apply standard laboratory procedures guidelines and safety requirements
Provide guidance to users on labelling data entry and storage practices
Assist with onboarding and use of mySample and related processes
Coordinate routine stocktakes and sample clean-up activities with stakeholders
Monitor data quality and contribute to process and workflow improvements
Comply with WHS requirements including safe manual handling and working in cold storage
A person engaged is generally expected to have the following skills and experience:
Relevant experience in a laboratory technical or operational environment or equivalent combination of training and experience
Demonstrated ability to apply procedures and systems consistently and accurately
Experience using inventory systems or databases (e.g. mySample or similar)
Ability to identify issues and apply judgement within defined frameworks
Strong organisational and time management skills
Ability to provide clear guidance to others on standard processes
Competent computer skills and strong attention to detail
Ability to work safely in laboratory and cold storage environments
