Job Summary

Compensation & Placement Salary is determined bythe Havergal Faculty Grid ranging from $74711 $106714 for early-careerfaculty and $107078 $140448 for those with 6 years of experience. Finalplacement is based on recognized teaching years degrees and AdditionalQualifications (AQs).

The Position:

The STEM Coordinator leads the development of acohesive JK6 STEM program that brings science and technology to life throughinquiry design thinking real-world problem solving and interdisciplinarylearning. Working in partnership with faculty students and school leadershipthe Coordinator fosters engaging and meaningful learning experiences alignedwith the Ontario curriculum. Guided by Havergals mission to prepare youngwomen to make a difference this role empowers teachers to centre student thinkingspark curiosity and cultivate agency in every learner.

The STEM Coordinator is an experienced educator witha deep understanding of student-centred pedagogy and inquiry-based bring an innovative mindset and demonstrate instructional leadership byempowering teachers to design and facilitate rich engaging STEM a genuine passion for science and technology the Coordinator buildsstrong relationships with colleagues and is a trusted knowledgeable partner inadvancing teaching and learning.

As a member of the Junior School faculty and acollaborative team of curriculum coordinators the STEM Coordinator contributesactively to the life of the school. They work collegially with faculty engageparents as partners in their daughters learning and demonstrate a commitmentto continuous professional growth. This role extends beyond the classroom withactive participation in the broader life and community of the school.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Build acohesive JK-6 STEM vision that emphasizes inquiry design thinking real-worldproblem solving and interdisciplinary learning.
  • Partner withteachers to design and implement rich inquiry-based STEM learning experiencesthat bring the Ontario Science and Technology curriculum to life emphasizingscientific understanding skill development and real-world application.
  • Design andfacilitate rich hands-on STEM learning experiences that foster curiositycreativity and iterative problem solving in students.
  • Meetregularly and partner with teachers to co-plan science units and to co-teachlessons where appropriate to foster long term capacity for teacher development.
  • Supportsteachers in developing unit plans and lessons in science and technologyemphasizing the use of observational activities design challenges inquiryactivities and research projects related to science and technology.
  • Support theappropriate application of mathematical concepts in science and technologyactivities in coordination with the Mathematics coordinator.
  • Supportteachers in developing authentic assessment strategies in STEM includingdocumentation of inquiry feedback cycles and evaluation of studentunderstanding.
  • Inconsultation with the Dean of Academics Head of the Junior School and JuniorSchool faculty determine and implement program changes as deemed necessary tosupport student engagement and learning.
  • Design andcurate the Junior School STEM lab as a dynamiclearning environment that provokes curiosity supports experimentationand enables hands-on learning. Keeping the space organized and equipped withresources that support the science and technology program in compliance withHealth and Safety regulations.
  • Support thepurposeful integration of technology to enhance inquiry design and problemsolving aligned with the science and technology curriculum.
  • Leadprofessional learning for faculty in STEM pedagogy inquiry-based instructionand effective integration of science and technology.
  • Identify andbuild connections with external partners experts or real-world context toenrich STEM learning.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Uphold theprofessional and ethical standards of practice as defined by the OntarioCollege of Teachers.
  • Activelyparticipate in professional growth activities (membership in professionallearning communities completing professional reading setting professionallearning goals).
  • Maintainconsistent professional supporting and encouraging relationships withcolleagues.
  • Ensurecompliance with all school policies and practices and maintain all requireddocumentation.
  • Maintain anopen line of communication with parents and work with them as partners in theirdaughters educational journey.
  • Activelyparticipate in the life of the school outside of the classroom.

Qualifications Knowledge and Experience

  • Relevantuniversity qualifications (e.g. Bachelor of Education plus Bachelor of Scienceor equivalent).
  • Certificationfrom the Ontario College of Teachers and be a member in Good Standing.
  • A minimum offive years of exemplary teaching experience in an elementary school.
  • Acomprehensive understanding of current educational practices in the areas ofcurriculum planning and implementation of the most recent Ontario Sciencecurriculum.
  • Acomprehensive understanding of Havergals assessment practices in line withGrowing Success.
  • Knowledge ofdiffering learning needs and strategies for supporting all kinds of learners.
  • Knowledge ofappropriate technology integration into teaching and assessment practices.
  • Knowledge ofthe current research on girls and learning.
  • An ability towork in a collaborative environment.
  • Able to workin a self-directed manner appropriate to changing needs.
  • Stronginterpersonal organizational time-management and communication skills.
