Job Summary

We are currently seeking a qualified Junior Control Systems Engineer to join our team based in Edmonton AB. The Junior Control Systems Engineer will be responsible for applying established control systems instrumentation and automation engineering principles methods and procedures to support project and design activities. Working on assignments with clearly defined objectives you will assist in the development of control system designs instrumentation specifications and automation solutions while exercising sound engineering judgment within established guidelines. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams suppliers clients and field personnel to exchange technical information and support the successful execution of industrial projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare instrumentation and control systems engineering deliverables in accordance with established designs project scope client specifications and applicable codes and standards.
  • Assist in the development of instrumentation and control system concepts studies reports technical evaluations and project proposals.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analyses related to instrument sizing control valve selection process measurements and control system architecture.
  • Develop and maintain instrument indexes instrument datasheets loop diagrams hook-up drawings location plans I/O lists cause & effect matrices control narratives and other instrumentation design documents.
  • Assist in the preparation of material requisitions technical bid evaluations specifications and procurement documentation for field instrumentation analyzers control valves packaged equipment controls and control systems.
  • Coordinate instrumentation and control system requirements with process mechanical electrical piping and other engineering disciplines.
  • Review manufacturers drawings datasheets and technical documentation to ensure compliance with project specifications client requirements and industry standards.
  • Participate in design reviews HAZOPs SIL studies constructability reviews and interdisciplinary model reviews as required.
  • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) site acceptance testing (SAT) commissioning startup and troubleshooting activities under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Review and verify instrumentation and control system designs drawings and technical information provided by suppliers contractors and packaged equipment vendors.
  • Develop specifications and technical requirements for instrumentation control valves analyzers and control systems based on established engineering standards and project requirements.
  • Assist in the review and approval of vendor documentation inspection reports and engineering deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain awareness of applicable industry codes standards and best practices related to instrumentation control systems functional safety and automation.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Instrumentation Engineering Mechatronics Engineering Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or eligible for registration with the applicable provincial engineering regulatory body (e.g. APEGA) with the ability to progress toward a Professional Engineer (.) designation.
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience in instrumentation control systems automation industrial facilities engineering consulting plant operations or construction environments.
  • New graduates are encouraged to apply. Previous co-op internship summer student research or practical engineering experience in instrumentation automation control systems or industrial projects will be considered an asset.
  • Basic understanding of instrumentation and process measurement principles including pressure temperature flow and level measurement technologies.
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS) Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) is considered an asset.
  • Exposure to industry codes standards and engineering practices related to instrumentation and control systems is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and engineering software tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn develop technical expertise and take on increasing levels of responsibility under the guidance of senior engineers.
