Position Summary

The Bharwani School of Arts and Sciences is seeking a passionate and student-focused Instructor Arts & Science to join our collaborative academic community. The school offers programming in General Arts and Sciences and provides foundational courses that support students across multiple schools within the college including Community Studies Health and Wellness Technology and Business.


Reporting to the Associate Dean the Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction supporting student success and creating engaging and inclusive learning environments. This instructor position focuses on Indigenous Studies including INDG1101 Introduction to Indigenous Studies and INDG2201 Indigenous Approaches to Healing and Wellness. This instructor position will also facilitate courses related to Indigenous Studies in the Education Assistant and Addiction Studies programs.


The successful candidate will bring strong instructional expertise excellent communication skills and a commitment to fostering meaningful learning experiences for a diverse student population in both classroom and online learning environments.


What Youll Be Doing:

  • Deliver High-Quality Instruction and Curriculum: Provide engaging and effective instruction in assigned Indigenous Studies courses using a variety of instructional approaches that support diverse student needs and learning styles. The instructor develops lesson plans facilitates classroom and online learning activities and creates meaningful learning experiences that support students in achieving course and program learning role also includes evaluating student progress on an ongoing basis providing timely feedback maintaining accurate academic records and developing or updating curriculum materials guides and rubrics as requested by the Program Chair. Instruction may occur in a variety of delivery formats and learning environments.


  • Support Student Success and Engagement: Create a positive inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement academic achievement and personal growth. The instructor supports students with issues related to attendance conduct and academic performance while identifying concerns that may require additional follow-up or role also involves connecting students with institutional support such as tutoring counseling and accessibility services as appropriate. The instructor ensures individualized accommodation plans (IAPs) are implemented effectively and participates in college and departmental events that support student success including orientations open houses and graduation activities.


  • Build Relationships and Contribute to the College Community: Collaborate with colleagues internal departments and external stakeholders to support program quality student pathways and community engagement. The instructor remains current with emerging trends and best practices in teaching and learning and adapts curriculum and instructional strategies as needed. Additional responsibilities may include supporting articulation and transfer activities participating on advisory committees attending external community meetings contributing to recruitment initiatives and participating in departmental and college-wide meetings and events.


  • Contribute to Professional and Institutional Initiatives: Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and institutional excellence by participating in professional development activities applied research opportunities and special projects as assigned. The instructor follows college policies and procedures and contributes positively to a collaborative and student-centered academic environment.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Masters Degree in a related discipline
  • Post-secondary teaching experience
  • Familiarity with local Indigenous peoples cultures and Indigenous Ways of Knowing Being Doing and Learning
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and appreciation for the diversity of cultural traditions and spiritual practices of First Nation Metis and Inuit peoples
  • Equivalent combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered.


Preferred:

  • PhD in a related discipline is an asset
  • Experience in curriculum development is an asset
  • Experience teaching in online environments is an asset

This opening is a temporary (faculty) position with an end date of August 16 2028.
