Job Summary
The School of Education (Faculty of Education & Social Work) at Thompson Rivers University seeks to fill a part-time sessional instructional support position. We are looking for a Practica Coordinator to manage our Bachelor of Education (.) Secondary placements for the developmental and summative practica working in partnership with the . Practica Coordinator and . Program Coordinator. This unique position involves working closely with faculty mentors teacher candidates teacher mentors and our surrounding school districts to manage the practica experience and support teacher candidate growth and development through observation and feedback.
Duties include:
Securing placements
Facilitating connection between Teacher Candidates Faculty Mentors and Teacher Mentors
Orienting Teacher Candidates Faculty mentors and Teacher mentors to practica expectations
Providing follow-up support during practica
Providing final grade entry for practica
Requirements
A Masters degree in education is required.
Expertise in K-12 education in British Columbia is required.
A minimum of five (5) years of full-time teaching and/or administration in K-12 settings is required.
Proven experience leading in a K-12 environment is required.
A proven record of networking and communication between K-12 schools and community is required.
Proven experience working successfully with Indigenous learners is required.
Experience with teacher induction and/or mentoring teacher candidates is required.
Proven experience in programs and practices that support diversity inclusion and intercultural understanding between local regional and global communities is required.
Excellent organizational interpersonal and communication skills are required.
Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods in particular as related to practicum is required (TRC CA 62).
Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect are required (TRC CA 63).
Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula is required (TRC CA 10)
