Service Technician Job Description

A Service Technician is an experienced field professional responsible for troubleshooting repairing and maintaining complex mechanical electrical and HVAC systems. This role typically includes a mix of handson technical work customer interaction mentoring junior technicians and ensuring highquality service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform advanced diagnostics on HVAC refrigeration or mechanical systems.

• Troubleshoot and repair equipment failures using technical expertise and manufacturer guidelines.

• Conduct preventive maintenance to improve system performance and reduce downtime.

• Install commission and test new equipment or system upgrades.

• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior or apprentice technicians.

• Document service activities including parts used work performed and recommendations.

• Maintain strong customer relationships explaining findings and solutions professionally.

• Interpret schematics and technical manuals for complex systems.

• Ensure compliance with safety procedures regulations and company standards.

• Recommend system improvements or replacement solutions based on customer needs.

Typical Qualifications

• Extensive handson field experience in HVAC refrigeration mechanical service or a related trade.

• Strong understanding of electrical mechanical and control systems.

• Technical certifications (HVAC licenses) depending on region.

• Strong communication and customerservice skills.

• Proficiency with service tools diagnostic equipment and digital work order systems.
