Home Care Services Worker (Part Time)

Siloam Mission is a Christian-based non-profit service organization for Manitobans who have experienced homelessness and who struggle with mental health issues physical and cognitive disabilities addictions or trauma. Founded in 1987 the mission provides emergency shelter meals and clothing supportive housing and a variety of healing support and recovery services to help people transform their own lives and reach their full potential.

Home Care Services Workers ensure that residents of the Madison live with dignity and are supported in improving their health and collaboration with the WRHA Home Care Case Coordinator cases are assigned to Siloam Home Care Services Workers. Siloam Home Care Services workers will collaborate with other Madison team members as well as external partners including Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services and the WRHA to provide excellence in care to residents at the Madison.

This position will offer personal care grounded in and guided by the ethics and approaches of Trauma Informed Care Harm Reduction and Anti-Oppression.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist residents with performing routine home maintenance such as laundry and general cleanliness (sweeping mopping dusting etc.)
• Organize work according to participant needs and assigned tasks
• Responds to the physical and emotional needs of participants
• Provides relevant participant information to the Housing Services team to assist in care planning
• Responds appropriately to inquiries relays messages and initiates appropriate action as directed
• Establishes and fosters positive interactions and relationships with residents and other members of the Siloam team
• Provides written and verbal reports and records participant care provided and changes observed as directed
• Reports and records critical incidents per Siloams policies
• Report any issues with resident to management including the need for supplies repairs in the room etc.
• Submits other required documentation as directed
• Participates in team meetings as assigned
• Performs in a manner that reflects the values of trust compassion and exceptional service in all interactions with residents members of the Siloam team and the public
• Perform other tasks related to the job that may be assigned by Management

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Minimum Grade 10 education Manitoba standards required
• Have or willing to obtain a recognized Health Care Aide course
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Adult Abuse Registry Check required
• Recent and related patient and/or participant care experience preferred

• Good organizational time management and multi-tasking skills required
• Ability to work independently under pressure
• Ability to organize and prioritize assigned workload
• Clear respectful verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to engage residents in a non-judgmental empathetic and strengths-based manner
• Experience supporting individuals with complex health needs substance use mental health concerns and co-occurring disorders
• Demonstrated ability to respond to challenging behaviours using trauma-informed and de-escalation approaches
• Maintains appropriate professional boundaries while fostering trust and rapport
• Communicates in ways that promote dignity autonomy and collaboration
• Understanding of colonization and its ongoing impacts on Indigenous peoples
• Demonstrated cultural humility
• Consistent application of harm reduction and Housing First principles
• Recognizing the challenges community members face with lived/living experience
• Information and/or training will be provided within the probation period for the following:
  • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions).
  • Regional and Program policies and procedures.
  • Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.
  • General skills and ability to perform all tasks and responsibilities relevant to the duties of the position.

RELATIONSHIP

• Reports to the Supervisor of the Madison
• Daily interaction with residents staff and volunteers
• Attends staff meetings

WORKING CONDITION

• Hours of work: Part time
  • Tuesday Thursday 8am-12:00pm Friday 8am-11:30am
• May be required to lift up to 50lbs repetitive motions (bending twisting lifting etc.)
• Exposure to blood and body fluids infectious diseases allergens noise and emotionally demanding situations
• May encounter home environments that could have congested spaces uneven surfaces
• This position is subject to TB Immunization or Tuberculin testing as per WRHA policy
• Indigenous ceremonies and practices including smudging will occur
• Hazardous conditions could potentially include unpredictable or risky behaviours from community members

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• The successful candidate must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful candidate possesses a work permit it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.

Wage: $20.08 - $27.17
