Job Summary
Location: Edmonton Red Deer or Calgary AB.
Employment Type: Full Time Permanent
Salary Range: T3 Level 5 $102000 - $120000 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors including education qualifications experience and internal equity.

The Opportunity
Do you have experience working in a tribunal or court setting Do you live in the details and have a penchant for being organized Our Hearing Commissioners Office (HCO) team is seeking a Hearing Coordinator. Were looking for someone who is familiar with the principles of administrative justice is an exceptional communicator and can effectively coordinate hearing teams of Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) staff legal counsel hearing commissioners and subject-matter-experts.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Manage the administration and logistics of proceedings and hearings. Promote consistent practices across proceedings. Coach and provide guidance to internal staff and external contractors regarding hearing practices employing conflict resolution skills and managing relationships throughout the hearing process.
Share information with parties the public and AER colleagues to support and enhance understanding of the pre-hearing and hearing process. Seek the input of experts in the AER who can contribute to improving the processes and products used by the Hearing Commissioners Office. Represent the AER and as the main point of contact for hearing parties addressing questions and providing guidance and information on the pre-hearing and hearing process.
Lead and influence the work of hearing teams in partnership with hearing panel chairs including establishing the approach and timelines for key process steps and promoting adherence to processes and procedures. Maintain awareness of general technical regulatory and legal information pertaining to proceedings and hearings to support self the panel technical experts counsel and others to fulfill their roles as part of a hearing team. Guide subject matter experts through the hearing process and provides training on processes and procedures therein. Advise hearing commissioners and others regarding historic and best practices pertaining to pre-hearing and hearing processes and considerations that may inform procedural and hearing decisions.
Demonstrate exceptional writing skills when prepare various documents on behalf of hearing panels.
Oversee or contribute to HCO continuous improvement initiatives and projects. Support activities that align with the AERs and HCOs strategic plan.
What were looking for in you:
Bachelors degree or equivalent in Law Energy Development Social Sciences or a related field.
5-7 years of related work experience.
Tribunal court or other experience with hearings.
Certificate in Administrative Justice is an asset (Foundation of Administrative Justice Council of Canadian Administrative Tribunals).
Project Management training is an asset.
Mediation training or experience is an asset.
Additional Information:
