Job Summary

The City of Edmonton is looking for two passionate and organized Facility Programmers to lead aquatic experiences at our Leisure Centres and Recreation this dynamic role you will be responsible for managing all aspects of aquatic program development planning implementation and evaluation.

You will strategically activate programs and experiences while maximizing available resources to meet community demands. As a key people leader you will collaborate closely with customer service teams facility managers and patrons providing direct oversight and mentorship for up to 50 staff members. Your efforts will directly impact revenue generation and business growth by continuously improving and expanding program variety to attract a broad audience. Ultimately you ensure that all activities seamlessly integrate safety regulations and public health guidelines to create an inviting active environment.

What will you do

  • Activate facility spaces with engaging programs events activities and experiences
  • Develop and oversee diverse aquatic programming including Swim for Life Swim Abilities Swim to Survive Aquafitness and safety certifications
  • Recruit hire onboard train schedule coach and evaluate part-time program delivery staff
  • Manage program resources facility schedules and bookings within established registration and revenue guidelines
  • Ensure strict participant and program safety procedures are followed through site inspections incident management and regular database updates
  • Respond promptly to customer questions concerns or issues to maintain an excellent service standard
  • Provide operational support including facility safety checks vacation backup coverage for the Facility Manager and responding to emergency situations
  • Collaborate closely with community organizations external agencies and internal collaborators to deliver successful joint events
  • Other related duties as assigned
  • Completed 1 year of post-secondary education in Recreation Administration Facility Management Marketing or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 1 year (2080 hours) of collective practical work experience as an Aquatic Instructor or Lifeguard
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Award (SFL)
  • Current Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor Award (LSI)
  • Current Lifesaving Society SwimAbilities Award (SA)
  • Current Government of Alberta workplace-approved Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C/AED (IFA)
  • Current Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross Award

Assets:

  • Possession of a current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Award (NL)

Skills required for success:

  • Proven ability to supervise mentor motivate and develop a diverse team of part-time personnel
  • Strong knowledge of public health occupational health and safety (OH&S) and provincial operating guidelines for aquatic facilities
  • Excellent communication interpersonal conflict-resolution and customer service skills
  • Superior time management organizational and prioritization abilities to handle shifting deadlines and facility closures
  • Ability to think systematically with a long-range perspective to problem-solve and address facility challenges
  • Strong networking skills to build strong relationships and discover optimal resources
  • Proficiency with technical software and applications such as Google Applications SAP DETS Ariba and Intelli Manager (RAMS)

Conditions of Employment:

  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Candidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent or higher. Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position
  • Possession of Intermediate First Aid CPR-C and AED certifications
  • Applicants may be tested

Work Environment:

  • Requires the ability to perform shift work and split shifts
  • This position operates in a lively recreation facility environment that involves light physical effort including standing walking and occasional lifting
  • Exposure to indoor environmental conditions typical of aquatic facilities (humidity warmth and pool chemicals)
  • May involve working outdoors with exposure to varying weather conditions and bright sunlight depending on programming
  • This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs expectations and emotional states

Salary Range: $38.987 - $40.310 (Hourly)
