About the Opportunity:


As an intermediate Estimator youll play a key role in driving the success of major infrastructure projects. Working closely with the estimating team youll analyze drawings and specifications prepare detailed cost estimates and contribute to winning bids for high-profile construction projects. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where no two days are the samewhether youre reviewing project proposals collaborating with subcontractors or strategizing on how to deliver efficient cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze project drawings specs and contract documents to develop accurate cost estimates.
  • Prepare estimates for unit rate lump sum and design-build projects.
  • Participate in constructability reviews staging and scheduling discussions.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns using HeavyBid software.
  • Identify risks cost-saving opportunities and areas requiring clarification.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers soliciting competitive quotes and ensuring compliance with project requirements.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting bid proposals.
  • Maintain databases of historical costs subcontractor relationships and market trends.
  • Stay updated on industry trends bid opportunities and project leads.
  • Support site teams during project execution when needed.


What You Bring to the Table:
  • A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology Construction Management or a related field
  • 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction estimating in water treatment/waste water.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret drawings perform quantity take-offs and use estimating software (HeavyBid is a plus).
  • Ability to identify project risks and propose effective solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams subcontractors and suppliers.
  • A keen eye for accuracy and the ability to multitask under tight deadlines.
  • A deep understanding of the industry and a drive to contribute to high-impact projects.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada (no sponsorship available).

Required Skills:

SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Working with Estimating in project pursuits including risk management sub contract buy outs and proposals as needed Prepare and manage sub contractor contracts and hold backs for project milestones Monitor project status reports for performance in safety cost forecasting and scheduling Manage the financial performance of the projects including approval of change orders Managing project team client representative consultant and trade contractor relationships. Monitoring progress of the design including compliance issues quality general coordination constructability and timing of deliverables. Thorough communication of potential opportunities and challenges and managing clients expectations through regular communication. QUALIFICATIONS: Post secondary education or training in engineering construction management or a related discipline. 10 years heavy civil construction experience with at least 3 years in a Project Management role Experience in estimating civil and infrastructure projects preferred Experience managing heavy civil projects such as bridges underground infrastructure excavations and/or road construction Demonstrated experience implementing a strong safety culture by application of health safety and environment principles and -depth knowledge of the construction industry including building materials construction specifications methods and procedures construction law and building codes and safety and quality management practices. Strong planning organizational and time management skills including the ability to manage project budgets and schedules. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients consultants and sub-contractors Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and project management and scheduling software
