We are seeking a talented individual to join our People Function practice at Marsh. This role will be based in Toronto and offers a hybrid work arrangement requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office.This is a full-time fixed term role through the end of February 2027.
As an Employee Relations Specialist you will support Employee Relations issue across the businesses of Marsh in the United States and Canada partnering with HR Managers and the Employee Relations COE and collaborating across the Marsh Companies.
We will count on you to:
- Provide guidance and support to People Manager on employee relations matters including conditions of employment employee counseling performance improvement processes investigations grievances appeals and disciplinary actions in consultation with the Employee Relations CoE
- Support a wide range of employee relations issues including progressive counseling performance management policy adherence Accommodations harassment/discrimination retaliation and short/long-term disability and FMLA with guidance on applicable state and local laws
- Serve as the highest level of ER support resolving escalated issues in close partnership with the Employee Relations CoE
- Use data and analytics to identify opportunities for continued education and support
- Partner with HR Managers to build People Manager capability in progressive counseling and performance management aligned to business priorities
- Contribute to the People Functions deployment of enterprise-wide HR programs and initiatives
- Investigate complaints of discrimination harassment and retaliation; coordinate with Legal and the Employee Relations CoE on attorney correspondence involving current or former employees
- Support leave and absence matters including coordinating with the Leave team on return-to-work accommodations and logistics
- Ensure local regulatory and statutory obligations including required reporting are met
What you need to have:
- 4 years of relevant HR experience with a focus on complex Employee Relations issues
- Ability to operate independently in most situations exercising judgment on when to seek guidance from colleagues or experts for more complex matters
- Experienced in supporting managers with employee relations case management including investigations and administration of case management
- Demonstrated ability to coach People Managers at all levels through all aspects of performance management policy interpretations and complex ER issues
- Strong analytical skills to track and identify trends in progressive counseling
- Solid understanding of local laws regulations company policy and HR processes including familiarity with Marshs internal and external formal processes
- Committed to ongoing self-development to stay current on professional knowledge
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across People Managers business colleagues and wider HR (CoEs People Partners)

The applicable base salary range for this role is $76700 to $114900.
The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience skills training location certifications and education. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case addition to the base salary this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
