New Non-Licensed Drop-In Early Learning and Play Program in Metrotown:
We know parents sometimes need time to shop run errands or take a short break. Our new non-licensed drop-in program offers a safe caring and welcoming space where children learn and play under the supervision of certified and experienced Early Childhood Educators.
Children may stay for a maximum of 2 hours. During their visit they take part in play-based early learning experiences inspired by the BC Early Learning Framework. Activities are guided by childrens interests and support curiosity communication creativity problem-solving social connection independence and confidence.
We recognize that the first five years are an important time for learning growth and development. Even during brief visits children benefit from meaningful opportunities to explore connect and build skills through play.
This program gives parents flexible support while giving children a positive place to learn play and grow.
POSITION FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Childcare Manager or Coordinator the Early Childhood Educator Assistant helps ECE staff with the programming for children.
- Be familiar with MOSAICs childcare programming philosophy and educational objectives and understands clearly his/her role in achieving the stated goals and contractual outcomes
- Be familiar with strategies outlined in the Ministry of Health documents Guiding Childrens Behaviors and Ensure the Childs Environment is Healthy and Safe
- Be familiar with program plans prior to beginning work each day and covering ECE duringactive/quiet individual/group and outside/inside activities as directed by ECEtheir coffee breaks following the scheduled child-directed activities care routines transition times and
- Responsible for tasks related to food preparation kitchen duties and routine kitchen maintenance and maintains food supplies
- Supports ECE staff in planning and implementing developmentally and culturally appropriate activities for childrens programs
- Assists and interacts with children appropriately using a variety of techniques that include modelingobserving questioning demonstrating and reinforcing
- Organizes and cleans the childcare space equipment and materials
- Attends and takes an active role in department staff meeting as appropriate
- Assist Coordinator by faxing scanning copying and filing documents
QUALIFICATIONS:
- ECEA License to practice
- At least 19 years of age
- Understanding and respect for various child-rearing practices familiar with BC ELFW and BC CCLR Act with minimum of the High school completion
- First aid certificate Food Safe and WHMIS certifications
- Tuberculosis screening & immunization record
- Some experience working with children in an educational setting.
- Must be reliable sensitive to the needs and concerns of immigrant families versatile and flexible
- Criminal Record Check required
- English communication skills; a second language is an asset
COMPENSATION: $24.94 - $27.54 per hour
HOURS: on-call on Saturdays and Sundays
The successful candidate must be able to commute tothe Burnaby Early Learning Centre at480-4800 Kingsway Burnaby
