About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time (Donor Centre Associate) to join our dynamic Collections team in our AB-Lethbridgedonor centre.

The Collections teamis responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by collecting donor blood and blood components in a safe manner to provide patients with lifesaving products every this role you will perform phlebotomy in the collection processin accordance with health and safety standards. You will work face-to-face with our donors team members and volunteers providing them with safe and quality service during each stage of the collection process

Formula for success
  • Delivers training to meet identified learning needs of colleagues and new hires to the Centre.
  • In collaboration with RN/Team Lead maintains training records and documentation associated with training and development for each staff member supporting operational requirements and audits as needed.
  • In the absence of or in collaboration with the RN/Team Lead provides guidance to staff to ensure that processes are performed effectively efficiently and safely.
  • Fosters and promotes a positive working environment in which staff feel empowered challenged and engaged.
  • Greets and assists all plasma donors as they progress through the donation process in an engaging and positive manner.
  • Assists with various recruitment/retention initiatives designed to further grow or engage the donor base.
  • Conducts confidential donor screening and obtains donor consent.
  • Performs venepuncture according to established standards.
  • Contributes to a culture of continuous improvement with the donation centre.
Desired education and skills
  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution preferably in science/health related field of study. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Completion of accredited training program in phlebotomy or one-year related experience. An equivalent combination of education training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience working with the public particularly in a high customer-focused environment.
  • A deep understanding of plasma operations processes policies procedural requirements and equipment
  • Knowledge of and experience working with current Good Manufacturing Practices andGood Documentation Practices.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement processes and practices
  • Demonstrates great ability to connect with clients and maintains a customize relationship with them
  • Builds and fosters positive relationships with peers manager and other plasma operations team members.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook are considered assets.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills team building and ability to collaborate in a multi- team setting
  • Must be detail-oriented and capable of working in a highly regulated environment
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet demands of the job
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities and multitask
  • The ability to exercise judgment tact diplomacy and strict confidentiality are mandatory
  • Fosters and promotes a positive public image
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language is an asset and enhances the quality of donor interactions.

What you can expect
  • Shifts/hours will vary. You must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs; length of shifts varies according to the event which takes place at Canadian Blood Services fixed donor center.
  • Physical requirements for the role include the ability to lift supplies and equipment in excess of 10 kg (22 lbs.).
