Job Summary

Our client a well-established and highly regarded Vancouver law firm is seeking a Director of Professional Development to lead and enhance its lawyer and student development programs. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic and people-focused leader who is passionate about legal talent development mentorship recruitment and fostering a positive professional culture.

Reporting to firm leadership the successful candidate will work closely with associates articling students and partners to oversee and continuously improve programs related to orientation professional development wellness mentorship performance management and student recruitment. The role will also play a key part in organizing lawyer-focused initiatives and events while managing program budgets and supporting the firms long-term talent strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and enhance associate and student development programs.
  • Oversee student recruitment initiatives and manage the student program.
  • Design and implement professional development mentorship wellness and orientation programs.
  • Coordinate performance evaluation processes for lawyers and students.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership on talent development strategies and recruitment initiatives.
  • Approve organize and support lawyer development and networking events.
  • Develop monitor and manage annual program budgets.
  • Foster a positive inclusive and high-performing professional environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive matters.
Qualifications
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and lead across all levels of an organization.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical problem-solving capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing programs teams or professional development initiatives.
  • Experience with recruitment and talent management is considered an asset.
  • Passion for lawyer development mentorship and legal talent acquisition.
  • Experience creating and managing budgets.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or LL.B. preferred.
  • Previous legal practice experience is preferred.
