Context
The Design Management function is entrusted with the vital responsibility of overseeing the design deliverables which is derived from the construction methodology and integration of the railway infrastructure. The DM teams shall consist of project managers commercial managers planners and other dedicated professionals to ensure that the design development is aligned to the infrastructure scope bundling strategy and is delivered to the proposed schedule and budget within the Development Phase.
The team will work closely with the Design Lead/Manager and other team members to ensure the successful execution of the projects. Their responsibilities include developing project plans coordinating design activities monitoring project progress managing project risks and issues and ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of the design scope. The Design Managers serve as the main point of contact for project-related communication and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
Missions/Main Duties
Delivers project technical strategies while providing administrative and discipline specific support and oversight to the project Technical Management Office activities to ensure coordination of efforts and successful completion
Executes objectives and controls activities during the development and implementation phases of project in conjunction with Managers and project teams
Manages and contributes technical recommendations to the pre-construction process by reviewing all plans and associated documents to ensure optimal coordination of projects throughout network; develops recommendations for proposed projects consistent with strategic plan and business objectives
Implements standards and manages critical paths/milestones by monitoring mechanisms for projects; regularly reports to Director on project status
Manages conflicts effectively to ensure resolution is reached with minimum disruption to workflow; tracks issues and manages the investigation of potentially serious situations that could impede the overall quality and management of projects and implements corrective measures; makes contingency recommendations to minimize negative cost impacts

Profile/Skills
Education: Completion of a degree in applied science engineering or a related discipline or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent
Years of experience: Minimum eight (8) years project management experience related to the design and construction and assurance of heavy passenger rail transit systems in a brown field environment and related works
Technical competencies:
Valid Professional Engineering (.) license recognized by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) or equivalent qualification is preferred
Knowledge of railway infrastructure and related construction projects
Personal & soft skills:
Knowledge of access improvement initiatives and an understanding of how to drive these through to bring the desired benefits.
Have experience of planning complex multidisciplinary construction works within operational corridors.
