DB2 DBA (LUW) Administrator
Role Summary
A DB2 LUW Administrator is responsible for managing IBM DB2 databases on distributed platforms (Linux Unix Windows). The role focuses on database installation maintenance performance optimization and ensuring high availability and security of database systems.
Required Skills
Technical Skills
Strong experience with IBM DB2 LUW (KUW)
Hands-on experience with:
HADR configuration
Backup & recovery strategies
Performance tuning
Strong SQL knowledge
Experience with Linux/Unix environments
Familiarity with DB2 tools (db2pd db2top EXPLAIN)
Preferred Skills
DB2 certifications (IBM Certified DBA)
Experience with cloud environments (AWS/Azure)
Exposure to other RDBMS (Oracle SQL Server)
Knowledge of automation and DevOps tool
Experience
8 years of DB2 LUW administration experience

Key Responsibilities
Database Administration
Install configure and maintain DB2 LUW databases
Create and manage instances databases tablespaces and schemas
Perform database upgrades patches and migrations
Manage storage space allocation and capacity planning
Performance Management
Monitor and analyze database performance
Tune SQL queries indexing strategies and database configurations
Optimize memory usage buffer pools and workload management
Troubleshoot locking deadlocks and slow queries
Backup & Recovery
Configure and manage backup strategies (offline/online backups)
Perform restores and point-in-time recovery (PITR)
Ensure proper archival logging and recoverability
Regularly validate backup integrity
High Availability (HA) & DR
Implement and manage HADR (High Availability Disaster Recovery)
Configure failover replication and standby databases
Support disaster recovery drills and testing
Security & Access Management
Manage users roles and permissions
Implement DB security policies and encryption
Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements
Monitoring & Troubleshooting
Monitor database health and system logs
Resolve incidents outages and performance issues
Perform root cause analysis and preventive actions
Automation & Scripting
Develop automation scripts (Shell Python Perl)
Automate routine DBA tasks such as backups and monitoring
Use scheduling tools like cron for maintenance jobs
