Position Summary:
The City of Niagara Falls is seeking an assistant for the Niagara Falls Museums Collection Optimization Project. This is a one-year contract position beginning in May 2026 with the potential for an extension beyond the initial term.
Responsible For:
Assist in setting up workspaces at the Wiloughby Historical Museum and the Niagara Falls History Museum.
Communicate the purpose process and importance of the Collection Optimization Project in a clear professional and transparent manner while working.
Assist in photo documentation and preparation of objects recommended for deaccession and relocation.
Administration of collection records and assisting in preparation of deaccession packages.
Assist in researching provenance donor agreements and legal/ethical considerations related to deaccession.
Assist in the coordination logistics for approved disposals transfers or repatriation activities as required.
Assist with collections packing storage preparation and relocation planning as required.
Adhere to the City of Niagara Falls Museums policies procedures guidelines and standards.
Ensure the overall safety of artefact collection.
Maintain cleanliness of the workspace.
Provide a model for exceptional service.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
College Diploma or University Degree in Museum Studies Archives Libraries or relevant equivalent.
Proficient in the use of collections databases and Microsoft Office.
Experience working with museum collections.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Passionate about history and working with the public.
Ability to work in both a collaborative environment and independently while maintaining accountability for specific deliverables.
Valid G drivers license.
