Course Coordinator UBC Indigenous Community Planning

Musqueam and UBC are looking for a Musqueam community member to work as a part time coordinator for the UBC graduate level course: Indigenous Community Planning: Indigenous Ways of Knowing Being and Doing (PLAN514).The course coordinators role will be to organize speakers and activities coordinate logistics such as catering and bookings and promote and raise awareness about the course to Musqueam members. Students work and learn with Indigenous community members about Indigenous ways of knowing and doing. This concentration attracts both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students from a range of academic and professional backgrounds who want to work with Indigenous communities. Ten committed students are accepted each year to enter into this the first year of the ICP program students take the course Indigenous Community Planning: Indigenous Ways of Knowing Being and Doing (PLAN 514).This course includes three land-based learning classes on Musqueam territory between September and December 2026. The majority of these sessions are led by Musqueam knowledge holders in topics such as hənqəminəm archaeology lands governance stewardship art history rights & title and how these relate to good community planning. For example one of the course activities will be a boat tour on the river with MIB Fisheries and Language & Culture departments. Some of the course sessions also involve academics professionals and speakers from other First Nations. This year Musqueam members will be invited to join the course activities with UBC students to build members knowledge and provide more access to college and university the end of this course the course coordinator will facilitate UBC students to have gained a better understanding of and respect for:Musqueam knowledge planning practice and philosophyIndigenous planning and specifically comprehensive community planning (both in theory and practice)Indigenous world views and the possibilities they offer as a basis for decolonizing western planningThe history of colonization and its ongoing impacts on and within Indigenous communities in what is now known as CanadaLearn more about the UBC Indigenous Community Planning program: more information please contact:
