FIREFLY is seeking a regular full-time Counsellor to join our this role you will provide meaningful evidence-informed mental health services while working as part of a collaborative and supportive interdisciplinary team dedicated to strengthening the well-being of children youth and families across Northwestern Ontario.

We provide mental health developmental and community services across Northwestern Ontario in partnership with families schools child care centres and community organizations.

About the Role:

As a Counsellor at FIREFLY you will play a vital role in supporting the mental health and well-being of children youth and families across Northwestern Ontario. Reporting to the Clinical Manager you will:

  • Provide individual family and group counselling services using evidence-informed culturally safe and client-centered approaches.
  • Complete clinical assessments develop intervention plans and implement therapeutic strategies tailored to client and family needs.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary team members community partners and service providers to support integrated care.
  • Deliver services in a variety of settings including in-office schools community locations and virtually.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with agency and ministry standards.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development clinical supervision and reflective practice.
  • Contribute to service planning program development and quality improvement initiatives.

This full-time position is based in Red Lake ON with some travel required throughout the region to support clients and attend team or community meetings. Some evening and weekend work is required. Flexible scheduling is available within the 35-hour workweek to accommodate client and service needs.

What Were Looking For

Education & Experience

  • A Masters or Graduate degree in a Human Services field is preferred an undergraduate degree in Human Services is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be a member in good standing with a College recognized by the Psychotherapy Act 2007.
  • Experience providing counselling services to children youth and families is considered an asset.
  • Experience working within community-based mental health services is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in French would be an asset.


Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to establish therapeutic relationships with children youth and families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development systems theory family dynamics and the clinical assessment process.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed strengths-based and culturally responsive approaches to care.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention risk assessment and safety planning.
  • Strong clinical judgement problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational documentation and case management skills.
  • Cultural humility and commitment to reconciliation and inclusive service delivery.
  • Understanding of Indigenous communities and culture is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to team goals.



Conditions of Employment

  • Valid Drivers Licence and ability to travel throughout Northwestern Ontario
  • Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screen
  • Ability to maintain a reasonable caseload through effective prioritization and follow-up.
